i was told on a flight i was catching that the flight may be cancelled if the takeoff was later than midnight. Because the pilots are only allotted so much time to fly or something like that...so I was basically wondering why that would hinder my flight when a diff. pilot could fly it....

You might be referring to the restrictions that certain airports apply -> that limit the hours of operations -> typically to prevent noise "pollution" at night for the residents of surrounding neighbourhoods. Actually its not the airports - but more so the municipalities and town councils - who prevent the airlines taking off/landing before/after certain hours of the day. so it has nothing to do with the pilots.

Hard to know if this is a riddle or a serious question. Either way, airline pilots CAN fly after midnight.
