First of all, are they?
Second if they were it might be because polytheism is waaaaay older than monotheism.

Hmmm....I don't think that can be said of either group. They are both equal perspectives on the same thing. Are Monists better the Monotheists? Are Henotheists better then Polytheists? All of these are just different perspectives on the same thing. And what about the Monistic Theist?! All of these groups have been around for a very long time and all have various degrees. We could argue, even, all day whether inclusive monotheists are more evolved that exclusive monotheists, but is that true? Are they more "evolved"? Perhaps not.
As a Hindu I believe that it is all just perspective on the same thing. The focus shouldn't be on whether those who worship one deity over all others is more evolved than those who worship multiple deities. It shouldn't matter so long as that person is striving for their spiritual goal.
I know many polytheists, pantheists, panentheists, henotheists, exclusive monotheists, and inclusive monotheists and the only thing I see in all of them is a deep commitment and love for the Divine be it that the Divine is multiple names and forms or one name and form. I myself, as a Hindu, am an inclusive monotheist so perhaps that shades my perspective on the subject. As far as I'm concerned: the Divine is the Divine no matter what name or form you call It by, ultimately It is beyond all names and forms. My ishtadev (personal name and form) is Ganesh, but as far as I'm concerned if someone worships Apollo exclusively or worships an entire pantheon of deities from Het-hert to the others...well that's all just Ganesh to me, too...it's all the same Divine to me.

polytheists are not more evolved than monotheists, it is simply a matter of choice. it is the person that may or may not be more evolved intellectually than the next. there are many paths to the same goal and following your innate belief system is key. personally, i'm a pagan, but that does not necessarily mean that i am polytheistic in belief...i believe that what people choose to call god can take many forms, and have many identities.

We are not more evolved than monotheists nor do we claim to be. I can't speak for all polytheists of course but my view is that if monotheism works for you, good for you. Polytheism doesn't work for everyone anymore than monotheism does. Neither one is better than the other, they're simply just two different ways.

Probably because polytheists are more open to answers and life, while monotheists are closed and focused on a single subject or deity.

Because single Gods, tend to break up into multiple gods. Take the Christian God. He became God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. Now Christians will tell you that they are all one and the same, but they are still worshiped as separate entities. Catholics, in addition, say prayers to saints, the mother of Jesus and to Angels. This is God dividing into multiple portions. I know a of non catholic Christians who also seem to worship Angels and the Mother of Jesus.
Other single God religions have done the same.

Read "Conversations with God" , by Neale Donald Walsch to find out who are the most evolved beings in the universe.

The fact that the polytheists who answered your question either challenged your assertion or denied it outright, tells me all I need to know.

I don't know. Maybe because it's such an enormous intellectual stretch to believe that a unified universe was created by multiple gods? It would take a really complex brain to believe that if they thought about it much.

Polytheism requires thought; monotheism is following the leader sheep’s stinky butt.
If it really matters, religion is manmade and an abomination as it is.
