Most doctors recommend that you introduce sippy cups around six months. Sometimes it can be helpful if your baby can watch another child who uses a sippy cup, though that doesn't always help. Let baby play with the sippy cup a couple times a day. The play will lead to baby learning how to use the sippy cup. Good luck!

about 6 months, there are special cups out there for this young. My son was nursed and we introduced the sippy cup at 6 months he never really used a bottle and was fine on the sippy.

Yes, when they start holding the bottle on their own. it helps to make taking the bottle away much easier.
I introduced the sippy cup to both my kids at about 4-5 months and they were off the bottle by a year old. No problems whatsoever.

I started introducing my daughter to a sippy cup at 6 months old. Of course they are not proficient at it and you have to help - it is more to get the idea of using a sippy cup. I used the gerber one with two handles - made it easier to hold. I would highly recommend trying it at or around this time because otherwise you fight the bottle battle. My daughter gave up her bottle at one and never looked back because she had the sippy cup!

I agree with you. When they can hold their own bottle is a great time. I introduced a sippy cup to my kids when they were about 5 months old. By 8 months neither drank from a bottle.

I started my children at about 6 months. Then I weened them from the bottle by their first birthday. It is very easy to move them from bottle to sippy cup if it is introduced early. Your baby may throw it at first but the introduction is important to move onto the sippy cup.

Nope I gave mine sippys at 5 months and took the bottle away at 12 months. My 9 month old can use a sippy with handles now. the later you wait to introduce them the harder they will have adjusting to it..I used playtex nursers and my boys can't hold their own bottle their just too big...

every child is different. and lucky for the technology of non-leaking sippy cups!! Due to "baby bottle rot" (early tooth decay from bottle use) and of course ear infections moving away from the bottle to the cup is a hard yet healthy change. With my oldest he was harder to get off the bottle i started when he was around 12 months but his dad would give him his bottle if he would whine which slowed down the process. it took me probably close to a year or more to totally get him off the bottle. my daughter i started before she was a year and it was re-in forced in her daycare so she was quick to leave it behind. she was barely over a year when she had mastered the cup.
yet there 13 1/2 and 7 1/2 now and i catch them still trying to eat food with there fingers... when does that one stop?? oh wait.. my husband is in his 30's and does it too.. guess that answers my question.... lol

My son never took a bottle, EVER. I gave him a sippy cup with a straw when he was about 5 months old, he did very well with it.
