When I was a toddler my German speaking grandma would get very upset when I would use my left hand. My dad, if I picked up a ball with my left , would come over and take the ball out of my left hand and place it in my right. They basically trained a left handed person to be right handed. Today I onlty eat and write as a left handed person. In the old country and across Europe the left hand was traditionally "the devil's hand" and the sign of the cross has traditionally and "correctly" been done with the right hand.

Many many years ago the left hand was considered to be the hand of the devil.
In schools teachers would walk around the class room and if they saw a student writing with their left hand they would wack the student's hand with a stick.
So, some older people will tell you to make the sign of the cross with the right hand. It's a traditionalist thing.
Hope this helps
Take care.

I have always used the right hand but I could'nt tell you if it's because that is the right way or just how I was taught. Here is a link that talk about the sign of the cross [too much :) ]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_of_the_cross
Just ignore the people that can't respect others beliefs.
Hope this helps :)

No, either hand is okay to use as long as you correctly make the holy sign of the cross. While I'm right handed, I've always used my left to make the holy sign.

I'm a pagan and will answer your question with questions of my own:
Making the sign of the cross doesn't matter anyway, so what is the difference?
Is God going to strike you down if you don't do it the correct way? What difference would it make to him?
Don't you think this is just a silly and pointless religious custom?

Most Catholics do it with the right hand since the left side is "evil".

You must use only the right hand. Unless you only have a left hand.

If your left handed use that hand , if right use the right it doesn't matter as long as you do it with reverence to god.
