A friend of mine are having problems agreeing on what's best for her kids. Living in a house where "Spring Cleaning"happends weekly with 3 pets and NO Flees, OR living in an appartment with flees living in the carpet, that hasn't been cleaned up for 5 months(I have proof of that)?

I found over 20 flee bites on the kids. She says it won't hurt them and that they love it at her place, I say there is no way they can love it there when then have bites all over them all of the time, never have a homecooked meal, and have to climb mountians of clothes and toys to get to their beds at night.

Swanny it's not being over protective to try to keep them from getting an infection or desease that can harm them. I'm all for letting them gain imunities, but allowing them to stay there for days/weeks/months and repeatedly be bitten isn't a way to do that!!!

Yes, the flea bites can get infected from the constant scratching, and it is possible that they can spread disease. She needs to understand that the fleas will only stay on a host long enough to feed, then the jump off and start laying eggs. An adult female flea can lay up to 250,000 eggs in a month. So if she doesn't get aggressive with her flea treatment, then she's fixing to have a major problem inside her house, outside her house, and on any animals nearby.

Flea bites (of extreme measures meaning 1000 or more) can cause an assortment of problems in children. The best thing to do is to keep the house clean and flea free, fleas can (very rare) carry some pathogens that cause influenza (I heard this from a vetrinarian) I am not sure if that is true though. But a healthy environment is to have NO fleas both for your children AND pets.
I have seen (on animal planet TV) where pets have DIED from flea bites alone if not treated fro it right away. A flea is a bug that eats blood from animals, they can kill small baby animals if there are more than 4 fleas on a newborn puppy of average weight it is considered a serious health threat. if there are 2 fleas on a newborn kitten, it is considered a serious health threat and the kitten can die within hours. All this is according to my vet.
Please clean that house it is unhealthy not only for the children, but for the pets.

In most cases, fleas are just a nuisance to their hosts, but some people and some animals suffer allergic reactions to flea saliva resulting in rashes. Flea bites generally result in the formation of a slightly-raised swollen itching spot with a single puncture point at the center. The bites often appear in clusters or lines, and can remain itchy and inflamed for up to several weeks afterwards. Fleas can also lead to hair loss as a result of frequent scratching and biting by the animal, and can cause anemia in extreme cases.

However, fleas can also act as a vector for disease. One possible example of this was the bubonic plague, which may have been transmitted between rodents and humans. Murine typhus (endemic typhus) fever, and in some cases tapeworms, Hymenolepis, can also be transmitted by fleas.

Of course flea bites are dangerous. Not only can fleas carry disease, but their bites can get infected. If you have proof that she is living in such a way, perhaps child protective services needs to be notified.. or you could kindly tell her that perhpas they need to be notified, because that is an unsafe place for kids to live.. and if they are endangered by filth, etc.. then someone needs to protect the kids.

no offence but it seems like your being abit overprotective and no flea are not harmful just a little itchy at times.by the way did you know that if you keep your children in a completely sterile atmosphere they will not build an amunity to certain bacteria that are harmless to to those who have faced them and built up an ammunity.infact studies show this could be why their is a raise in asthma.

I think flee bites can hurt the kids, and it sounds like social services needs to visit your friend's house.

this is ironic that as much as a gov like Brewer complains regarding the federal government, she is nevertheless unwilling to take heed to the perspectives of the interior of reach governments in her state. This new regulation takes the alternative far off from them with reference to the disposition of the weapons and could likely discourage gun purchase back classes, that's doubt why the NRA supported the regulation.

Flees remind me of someone who is dirty and unsanitary. They really need to have a professional come out and fix the problem. That's really gross.
