Scientific method is limited to a process defined by that which is measurable and repeatable. By definition, it cannot speak to issues of ultimate origin, meaning, or morality. For such answers, science is dependent on the values and personal beliefs of those who use it. Science, therefore, has great potential for both good and evil. It can be used to make vaccines or poisons, nuclear power plants or nuclear weapons. It can be used to clean up the environment or to pollute it. It can be used to argue for God or against Him. Science by itself offers no moral guidance or values to govern our lives. All science can do is show us how natural law works, while telling us nothing about its origins.

Why should someone have Faith in the Bible when - the Bible was written pre- dark ages and those that wrote it had no knowledge of science. They didn't test anything - nothing was held to a standard (no repeatable observations) Today's magician would have been a miracle worker. People back then fell for anything, because they had no knowledge to stand on. That's the basis of your entire belief system. Get a grip.

It shows that Humanity is still in it's infancy - we are still scared of and believe in ghosts, monsters, demons, goblins, angels, witches and gods. Humanity must decide one day to grow up and get over our constant fear and warfare, we need to work on reality/truth and throw out ignorance and faith.

Have you seen how many different faiths there are in the world - literally more than 100,000 - different versions of god and belief. I suppose yours is right and all others are wrong. Maybe you should test the foundations of your belief and see if they hold up to scientific scrutiny. Test those miracles, see if archeology supports 6,000 years since creation (look at the fossil record throughout consistent sedimentation levels world wide), figure the biological computations on Noah's arc (not possible), test and repeat a virgin birth - good luck.

Think of it this way - your all knowing god decided to make the world - didn't like it and decided to get rid of everyone but Noah - then he didn't like it again so he sent his son to save everyone. What a bunch of crud. Don't you think an all knowing god wouldn't make mistakes. Wrong - it's all made up due to excessive fear and a need by some to control others. It doesn't exist is the logical answer.

Check out the old testament - so many contradictions and so much horror. The God of the old testament is a sicko. Definitly not the same inspiration as the new testament. New Testament's contradictions are nicer but just as wrong. All written by men, long ago, scared of a violent and dangerous society, grasping for something to believe in, and with no knowledge to stand on.

Decendants of the same people trying to kill each other in the middleeast today. Time for a change of thought.

"All science can do is show us how natural law works, while telling us nothing about its origins."

It can give us clues to origins. Astronomy teaches us a lot about the past. Because light take so long to reach us from far away, the farther an object is from us, the further into the past we're looking, because it left whatever produced it longer ago than closer objects.

"Science by itself offers no moral guidance or values to govern our lives."

True. That's where religion and mythology come in handy.

"It can be used to argue for God or against Him."

I've never found science to be useful in that regard - ether way. It doesn't speak to the existence of God at all. They're two completely different things (religion and science) and one does not preclude the other. They are not mutually exclusive.

I understand your point and I agree that science is only a tool for us to use and as such it can be used for good and for bad. BUT I do not agree at all with your conclusion that knowing that somehow proves the bibical god. The bible was written by men and therefore the same argument could be made there. Religions are the creation of men and again the same good and evil argument can be made. Personally I believe the concept of god(s) is also a creation of man and as such it can also be used for good (to inspire, to motivate, etc) and also for bad (seperate, instigate, devastate). Any creation of mans (science or god) can be used as tools for creation or destruction.

The bible is the supposed word of God. It is possible that it is incorrect, that it was written by people who simply believed that the words they were hearing in their head was the word of God? Yes, not only is it possible, it is most likely probable.
The origin you write of is not possible to know. Science tries to determine the origin by testing and by hypothesis, where religion (the writers of the Bible), it appears, just made wild guesses based on their beliefs and on the mythology of the day. Why side with fantasy and myth? Why not go with science, which is based on FACT?

iot is wrong to take so much stock in a storybook rewritten over and over again and manipulated to suit the goals of men. There is no concrete evidence that teh Bible in its current form is the true word of your god.
So, NO... your preaching has no power over me to force me to believe in whatever it is you think you believe.

the book was written in the metaporical language designed to be understood by the people of the time it was written in. It is simply a colection of books selected by a bunch of dudes in robes to suit their goals. Any true message was bastardized and lost in translation. Videlicet not to be taken literally. There are numbers of books out there that were meant to be in the "bible" but not included for some reason or another... leads to wonder why some were left out.

Your argument isn't clear. We don't look to science for moral guidance, we get that from the communities we live in. since they are the ones who say what is and is not acceptable.

Your reasoning escapes me, and doesn't cause me to have faith in god, but thanks for asking.;

Anything we, humans, do can be for good or evil.

People use the bible for ill too.

They've justified slavery of our brothers.
They've justified women as second-class citizens.
They've justified wars.
They've justified witch trials.
They've justified Nazi and KKK doctrine.

Shall I go on?

Excellent observations! Co-existence is balance...the balance here being that which is Earthly (science) & that which is not (spirituality).
Nice to see thought in process!
