So the other day I was at a car lot and I overheard a young woman on her cell and she said to whomever she was talking to, "I'm sitting in this car and I really want to get it, but I asked God if I should and He says no. What should I do?"

My question is, does God really have the time to advise us on such mundane things as car shopping? And couldn't she have made her own decision without having to ask God, by using her own common sense? Or did she just want someone to blame because she is wishy washy?
Do alot of people do this??

I wish that people would remember that we are each endowed with a conscience and free will. We don't have to have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, one pulling us this way and the other pulling us that. But I guess such a scenario allows us to place blame elsewhere, like "the devil made me do it."

While we might seek God as a form of guidance, I'm not sure that this particular situation is what He meant (but I could be wrong).

I'd like to know who she was talking to on that cell phone. Apparently it was someone she has as much faith in, or more faith in, than God.

If there was no God and no religion, someone like that would ask the birds or a dog walking by or her Yoga instructor or her lipstick. She's someone completely incapable of making any decisions for herself because, for whatever reasons, she lacks the confidence to do so.

Buying a car is a big deal and most of us, realistically, do not know what much about them except they are big and expensive but they get us where we are going and that's what counts. It's normal to want to look to an informed source for advice and since she views her God as omniscient then he should know whether or not she was getting a good vehicle for her money. She'd probably be better off asking her parents or boss or someone with more life experience instead of praying and then trying to interpret whatever answer it is that she thinks she's received.

I personally don't do things like that, but sometimes I take something as a sign. Like one time my husband and I went for a drive in the country and the week before we'd been talking about buying a canoe. We didn't know where we were going, but we wound up at this outdoor supply store in the middle of nowhere and they were having a clearance sale on the previous year's canoes. We bought two :o) Another time there was an ice storm just starting and we were in a hurry to get home. We drove by a church and I just happened to look and I saw a man slip down the front steps and hit his head. It was late in the evening and no one else seemed to be around. I told my husband and he turned the car around. The man was lying on the ground, not moving. My husband is a trained responder and he tended to the minister while I got his keys, let myself in the church and used a phone to call an ambulance. I also found some coats in a box and I brought them out to keep the man warm. He was knocked out and bleeding, but otherwise all right. I visitied him a week later at the church to check on him and he was doing wonderfully. I said it's a good thing we just happened to be driving by (we live sort of in the country and the church is on the way) and he said so casually, "Yes, I'm so grateful God sent you my way. Guess He wants me around for a bit longer." I've often thought about that comment since.

I do. I seek out God's wisdom on many issues, including major purposes. I could be that God's will is for this woman to get out of debt and this purchase would have changed that. It is also possible that the money for the purchae would be needed for something else down the road such as a death in the family or some othe emergency. Yes, God has the time to advise us on all situations. it is pretty easy to do since the tips are available in book form.

Let me put it this way. I have had pretty good experiences with praying about a car purchase.

When I went out to get my current car, I didn't seek God, because I saw a car I liked and I wanted it. I just pushed through and got it.
I have paid for this car about 3 times by now. I started out as a lease(cause I couldn't afford it otherwise), and had some expensive repairs before the lease ran out. Well I purchased the car and then the ENGINE died, I have had more accidents with this car than any other also(3).

Now God in His mercy has helped me out on all the repairs and accidents, and even vandalism, but I learned I will never push past Him to get my way again(so help me God)

The world is full of silly people like this girl who seems to have called God on her cellphone before calling her friend.

All the world's religions tell you that God is like Santa Claus waiting to dispense favours. And yes sometimes when something terrible happens then of course that same God was probably angry ?

This woman you saw is clearly silly. She has a split Jekyll and Hyde personality. One side says no (she calls that side God) and the other side says yes (that side is probably Satan?)

I personally think this is religious foolishness and I'm a Christian pastor.
I've actually heard people testify that they needed twenty dollars and God blessed them when the girl made change at the local K mart and gave them twenty dollars to much back.
I informed them that God didn't bless them they stole twenty dollars from a girl that may loose her job because of it.

For billions of years he grew to grow to be making each and each and all the plant kinds, then the fish style yet another billion or so. Then birds and subject matters that fly. in all likelihood insects and they are the significant multiple of all residing subject matters. for the era of a few of those years plant life were making the planets floor thicker than a jungle. Maybe she was referring to her conscience....like something in the back of her mind was telling her that she shouldn't get the car. Maybe she just refers to that as God. I doubt that God actually answered her and said no.

First of all if she knew it was God telling her no, that should have been then end of it. Why call and ask someone else. Silly question in my opinion.
