Huskies are extremely independent and difficult to train. For thousands of years they have been bred to do nothing but pull sleds - basically running away from you their whole lives.

You shouldn't punish a puppy at all. You have to actively supervise them when they are out of their crates. You have to teach them what YOU decide is good and what is bad. Punishment implies only that you do something negative when they do something you don't like. A proper "correction" is something that instantly stops the bad behavior, shows them what else to do instead and praises them for the good behavior.

They're not born knowing what not to touch. First, keep her in a dog crate anytime you can't supervise her - not because she's bad, but the same way you'd use a playpen with a baby. Keep her on a leash at all times and tie the end to your belt so you can supervise and train her. Keep only two dog toys out at any one time. If a dog has too many toys, she will think that everything loose in the house belongs to her. You need to teach her that everything loose in the house belongs to YOU.

Show her one item that she usually steals or chews up - if she tries to take it, tell her "NO!" and give her a jerk on the leash. Then take her to her dog toy, get her all excited and tell her "GOOD GIRL!" when she takes her toy. Practice this every day with items that she is and isn't supposed to have. When she is perfect, you can drop the leash and let him drag it around - but keep her confined to the room that you are in, so you can keep an eye on her and correct her if she makes a mistake.

If she's nippy with people when she tries to grab your hand, do NOT pull away - that makes it a game for her. Use your OTHER hand to jerk the leash and tell her "no." Then give her a dog toy instead. Also, teach her to sit and be nice when she comes up to you - BEFORE you pet her. Make sure she's only being rewarded for good behavior!

Hi, I don't have an autistic dog, and nor do you, but i have a dog and so does my housemate. This would possibly not aid you but i want you to grasp your Jade is not an extraordinary ball with the aid of any stretch of the measure. My housemate and that i both have a feminine cocker spaniel and although they may be the equal bread and gender they're nothing alike! I do know i have a delicate spot for my dog Delilah however Ruby, my housemates dog, is nuts! Ruby barks at men and women at the same time they may be drowsing within the core of the night! Now not fun at all. So when my boyfriend and i dicipline Ruby for her sporadic nutty behaviour Delilah reacts as though we're talking to her. We consider it can be on the grounds that we're the leaders of the 'percent' and irrespective of in case you have two puppies or five, you'll be able to more often than not have one dog who's tuned into your instructions more then any other dog and they appreciate the whole lot you say while you communicate to them. It's your tone of voice and mannerisms that they pay concentration too. Most commonly when you consider that you might have spent more time coaching them on these commands then the other canine(s). I would speak to the vet just to make certain she's not ailing with whatever so that you as a minimum understand she's no longer seeking to let you know some thing else. Excellent success buddy.

Siberian husky or not, if you want to punish her make sure 1 that you are not punishing her for something that you later/have rewarded her for in the past and 2 that you catch her in the act. if you don't catch her in the act she will not know what is wrong and if you have or later reward the same behaviour she will get confused. Also remember that she is a puppy and she is trying to learn the rules so you have to be strict but not harsh with her. To punish her, you can either use a rolled up newspaper and smack her firmly and say NO in a deep voice (so she knows she is being growled) this makes a lot of noise but it shouldn't hurt them. if they yelp after the first time you are hitting too hard. You should never punch any sort of animal or person but if the puppy is biting you, say NO smack her with the newspaper and offer her a chew toy that is not you. As for rolling them on their backs, if your puppy is rolled onto her back by you in her home she will feel safer but still submissive but if it is done on an unfamiliar territory then she may feel threatened and with you not letting her up until she stops struggling, she make become fearful of others witch is NOT a behaviour you want in a husky. flicking them on the nose is O.K but you have to flick fairly hard or the puppy will not think of it as a punishment and it won't work if you have to repeatedly flick the puppy on the nose.

my recommendation is to go with the newspaper trick, also dogs don't like to think they are the leader, but they do try as a puppy to become the leader so teaching her manners such as she eats AFTER you do and she goes through the door AFTER you as soon as possible will go a long way to having a well adjusted and behaved dog.

Answer....

Take an empty soda can and fill it less than half full of small rocks and tape up the openning. Then, when you catch the puppy in the act (doing anything bad, not just chewing), shake the can near her an use her name and tell her "No". This should stop the action. Then, re-direct her attention to an acceptable toy to play with. Repeat this process. Do not hit or threaten her...it may make her aggressive. Use rawhide chews.

Okay this is one of my soapbox subjects...

You outweigh that puppy by at least 20:1 if the puppy weighs 5 pounds and you weigh 100 pounds. It's brain is probably the size of a walnut while yours is a little less then size of your head. You are asking that creature to immediately understand your language and gestures when it is just a baby. Do you think a human baby could immediately understand you? Do you think you can immediately understand what a dog is saying to you by it's barking at you for the first time?

Then why would you punish it?

You mean to tell me with love and patience you can't train an animal without punishing it?

I'm sorry, but people who abuse animals by punishing them, shocking them with collars, kicking or hitting them, abandoning them or leaving them confined or exposed to the elements deserve the worst kind of hell imaginable. They definitely don't deserve the unconditional love of an animal.

Get a book. Call an obedience school. But please do not punish that puppy. If you do I pray to God that you get whatever you do it 100 times back and more.

Well, first of all, puppies will be puppies, so dont be rough with it. Then, if you want to teach it whats wrong, and what is right, then punish it while it is doing whatever is wrong. if you punish it after, it wont know what you are punishing it for. when you punish it, dont hit it, be firm and loud, but afterwards, make sure it knows when you aren't mad. Never yell and walk away. Also, when it starts behaving the way you want it to, reward it.

Maybe if you put the chords out of reach she wouldn't chew on them. She's just a little puppy she doesn't know whats wrong and right.

some people believe in crate training, but any place they are isolated for a few minutes every time they do something you want to correct will work if you are consistent and do it every time. Pups really hate being ignored.
