Lets say you get a speeding ticket for about $115.00 .. . One of my friends told me that I should mail in the check for about $124.00 or something... The court will send you the refund check back for $9.00, since its overpaid... You should just trash that check... Your drivers record wont be updated unless that check clears.... and they wont even bother you since it has been paid... The account never gets settled and hence never updated... which means clean driving record..... does this really work?

NO IT DOESN'T! Sheesh, will this urban legend never die?

Keep in mind that points/penalties are assigned by the DMV/MVD in most states, while the court determines if you were responsible for the ticket. So, what happens is this: You overpay the fine, the court annotates their copy of the ticket with the fact that you admitted responsibility for the accident and sends that ticket to the DMV/MVD. The court also issues a refund for the difference, or adds the extra money to the general fund. Meanwhile, the MVD, who does not care if you paid the court, administratively handles the points/penalties. 2 separate agencies!

Just pay the ticket or take driving class if you are eligible.

I've never heard of that. I asked for deffered adjudification when I got my ticket. If you don't get a ticket in the next couple of months then it's wiped clean off of your record.

I think your friend is pulling your chain. I have issued many tickets over the years in the Army and in civilian law enforcement and have never heard of such a thing.

I heard that too, but I think they might have upgraded system. However, if I were you, it doesn't hurt if you just pay $116.00 ...
or 1 dollar extra.

However, it is highly unlikely it will work

That is the silliest thing I ever heard of... You should just do a deferred adjudication.
