Working in a shelter may make you feel better that you're helping, or it may make you feel worse that so much cruelty is going on. Don't try to save too many dogs on your own. Three is the limit that most people can properly train and care for.

I'd suggest you do projects that educate children when they are very young how to properly care for their pets. Children should be taught how to select a healthy dog and how to train it. If a dog is trained properly as a pup, he's much less likely to be dumped at a shelter.

Don't you see how many people on this site alone are asking how many days a female is pregnant? They don't even know the basics and they are calling themselves "breeders."

Write to your legislators and get them to BAN puppy mills and make it illegal to sell puppies and kittens in stores. This is the source of most of the unwanted dogs in the US. They lie to the customers all the time. The goal of a salesman at a pet store is to get your money - not to sell you the right dog for your family. I have overheard them say that an Old English Sheepdog pup wouldn't get too big and wouldn't need any grooming. Jack Russell Terriers are sold everyday as "perfect family dogs" - they conveniently forget to tell you that they're hard to train and very hyper! A good breeder will spend more time telling you why you SHOULDN'T own his puppies than trying to get you to buy one.

Read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

Animals experimentation saves animals too.
As for the dogs tied in yards, I don't get that myself, I want to let them go too.
Maybe working at a shelter would help, but it will probably make it worse.
There isn't much you can do, exec pt maybe learn a little more about what happens in the labs, because most puppy mill dog breeding sites are far far dirtier and less than habitable than labs.

My dog would probably have had to have been euthanized if it hadn't been for medical research done in a lab somewhere.

You are not weird at all!! I love animals, too, and I also feel the way you do. I guess all you can do is report people, I do a lot of that! I try my best, but sometimes I just have to give it to my higher power to deal with it because sometimes the authorities don't seem to care. I applaud you for caring--please don't stop. Some people think that they are the boss of the animals and they can treat them any way they want because they are their 'possession'. I can't stand that--it's disgusting! We share the world with them and it is the people who are doing the most harm--not animals!!!

You can love animals and help them without going off the deep end and getting involved with the AR lunatics.

You need to quit reading the AR groups propaganda and educate yourself.

And yes, volunteer at a shelter.

Uh...yep,you're weird alright & NO,don't volunteer ANYWHERE until AFTER you mature & get therapy,OK?

Then again..maybe if you met REAL animals instead of your "fantasy " view.... hhhhhmmmmmmmm. Talk to your therapist about that,in a year or 2.
