What I meant by earning what she gets is this.....I pay for all her food, clothing, entertainment and any other basic she needs. What I make her earn is her extras...like she wanted a 100.00 pair of tennis shoes so she mowed yards to earn the money...if she wants a new stero she has to earn it...and as far as the hair cuts she likes her hair cut every other month....that she has to earn and her nails...I should have been more clear on what I meant.

I think I'm a parent like you. I see too many spoiled kids of all ages out there. I just read an article that said if your daughter wants designer jeans for example, agree to pay what you would for Old Navy jeans and make her pony up the rest. I see teens around here that won't even walk my dog while I'm on vacation for $. Why should they, when Mommy buys them $300. hair cuts? My friends' 14 and 12 year olds get $300. streaks and cuts and she is dying her hair from Miss Clairol. It's insane. My daughter is 10, but she knows money doesn't grow on trees. I am very careful about not spoiling her and I'm pleased with what a great kid she is turning out to be.

I have 3 children and they all have had to earn extra if they want things other than the essentials in life when it came to clothing and shoes I had a limit that I would spend on these items and if they chose more expensive I would layby the item and I would pay for the amount I set and then it was up to the kids to pay the balance with money they had earnt

Sounds fair, I make my son do chores for new video games, he even had his own garage sale to sell his old stuff to buy something he wanted. If she wants her nails done, expensive items, that's her money. Now if you were going to buy her a cheaper pair of shoes I can see putting that much money towards them, but the extras is something that she needs to pay for. If she earns the money it means more, at least it did to me.
