I asked my dad that this morning after seeing some of the British Open, he said it's cause they don't water the grass and that it's more of a "natural" golf course. Supposedly they don't trim the rough either, sounds strange to me but I'm used to the nice green uniformly cut American golf courses.

Actaully, I went to school in Liverpool. The funny part is that on my first weekend, a student guide made an appointment with me to go to the fresh market, and once she came, I said I won't go as it was raining. She said, if you don't go because of rain, you'll never get any where. It bloody rains everyday!!!!
That's why there's no sprinker in the golf course. It rains a lot. No need. The way the golf course was like that because it is supposed to be. That's why they call it Fairway and Green, because fairways are not supposed to be Green!!!

In the old days, they don't spend so much money building sewages, sprinkers, import grass, and etc for golf course. Golf courses were just there naturally, and was played the way that it was meant to. The rain, the wind, the sea design it.

What, every golf course in England? Have you visited them all?
Golf courses are usually green, unless patches on any have been scorched by the current heatwave and drought.
There are hundreds of good English golf courses, many of which are every bit as good ones in north America.

It is because they are having one of thier worst droughts and they have limited water supplies to water the grass. If your notice there are smal patches of green on the fairways, this is where the sprinklers are and that area gets the most water.

Well gee, possibly because of a combination of
1) Heatwave
2) Hosepipe bans in selected areas
3) Lack of rain
4) General lack of any kind of water.
