The dogs wail and cry. They release hormones of fear and pain that allegedly make the meat taste better. What do you think of this practice?

GitEmGang refuses to believe it. He's an idiot, and an offensive one at that. This has been a well-known practice for centuries, although it's politically incorrect to point it out, in the name of "cultural relativism". Do your own research. It's easy to verify.

Someone below has apparently no clue about the actual question. It's not about eating dog, no matter how we Westerners may feel about it. It's about beating them to death in agony to make them "taste good".

This is a practice that is slowly going to be phased out as I live in Korea now and now about this tradition. It is something that is mostly done by the older generations. Bo-shing-tang is the name of "dog-meat stew" and it is something eaten by old men. There is "bok-day" which is the hottest day of the year and in the olden times, dogs were eaten to fight fatigue. Dog eating season in Korea used to start in May.
These days, few people eat dog because of the moral dilemma and the cruelty. Still in some smaller areas you find people that adhere to this tradition.
Personally, I think that it is time to give up this tradition completely because there is no need for it in the common Korean society. Originally, dogs had to be eaten because there was many of them and few cows. Then as I said earlier, people believed it fought fatigue. These days, Koreans need to realize that the tradition of "hanging a dog by it's neck and beating with a bat, to soften the flesh" are old and barbaric. Though it is important to remember the traditions of this great culture, one must realize the cruelty of this act.

This practice has been around for centuries, horrible but true. A one point in history it was illegal to sell meat if the bull had not been "properly" baited. It was (is) believed that the fear and pain does enhance the meats' taste.
Some cultures eat dogs, there are breeds of dogs that were raised for meat. Those are the facts.
I would find it completely believable that the practice of baiting and tormenting meat animals is still with us. And what is considered a meat animal is completely cultural.
And just because someone doesn't believe this could happen doesn't mean it doesn't everyday, somewhere.

We eat cows, pigs, and chickens. Europeans eat horses. Why is this so different? Because we love dogs? I also love horses, and am sure there are some that love their pig or chicken.
I personally think eating horses and dogs is disgusting, but it is not my business to tell you what you should/shouldn't eat. Their methods are disgusting and it would be good if they used a more humane method. But it really is none of our business. If you don't like it, then don't do it. Nobody is forcing anybody to eat dog, horse, or even chicken.
And yes, I understand the question. I stand by my answer of "Their methods are disgusting and it would be good if they used a more humane method. But it really is none of our business. If you don't like it, then don't do it." I guess I thought my answer was not that hard to find in my original posting, I will try to keep it simple next time.
If it were going on HERE, that would be different. But what is happening in Korea is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS! IMO our country would be much better off if we would stay out of everyone elses business.

There's too much cruelty perpetrated in the name of tradition and it's time we stopped hiding behind it. We're supposed to have evolved and become civilized. Let's try to show our children
that we're really civilized by stopping such barbaric practices. If we don't, then we can't complain when our children grow up heartless and cruel.

Torture equals Taste. I heard of that.
It's horrible of course, but it's part of thier culture. Just like bull and rooster fighting is part of some people's culture.
