Pig is pork
Cows are beef
Why is it surprising sheep is called lamb? They use the baby sheep, called lambs, for meat.
Old sheep get used for "lamb" flavored cat and dog food.
Anyway, it is all marketing. They call it whatever people like to hear.

When you eat lamb, you're eating a lamb. A lamb is a baby sheep. You can eat sheep, but it's tough and stringy, not tender like a baby sheep, or lamb. That's why we eat lamb and not sheep.

No :-( Unfortunately, lamb is lamb. If you eat a full-grown sheep it's called mutton.

Not necessarily. Lamb is just young sheep whether you eat it or not. When it's full grown it's called mutton and the meat is tougher.

Mutton isn't as tender, and has a stronger flavor. So lamb is usually preferred.

Animals we eat (dead animals) are called differently to living ones.
Pig is the animal, we eat pork
Cos is the animal, we eat beef
Sheep is the animal, we eat lamb chops or mutton
Deer is the animal, we eat venison
Fish is the animal, we eat fish, never fishes ( I ate five fish for lunch)
