The two primary functions of a building are to keep the occupants dry ( keep the rain off ) and to maintain a comfortable temperature ( keep the heat in).

That saying summarizes the main function of a building.

If you are heating the buliding, you want to keep that heat in

and you want to keep rain off of certain parts of it.

Sorry to ask, but is english not your 1st language? Becuase if you need to ask that and you are studying arch., you are in trouble
