I don't know. I question the desire to get to heaven and the belief in it. No everyone wants to go to heaven before it does not exist in some peoples beliefs. out of those who believe there is a heaven I think even a small percentage of them don't want to go there or hope it is a lot different if they end up going there.
I question if I want to go to heaven if it exists simply based on logic. The logic being, if you stay forever in heaven then no matter how many things there are to do, one will become bored. It doesn't matter how much you like to do what there is to do, you will become bored.
That is why re-incarnation is such a better idea than heaven. there is something about limited time and knowledge that would make life, even with its down more enjoyable in the end (in review after death) than a perm. place like heaven.
of course this is all assuming re-incarnation or heaven exist...
in the end, if they do exist as options, heaven might be nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to say there.... unless like they say, you can make heaven on earth ( the thought being that living multiple lives on earth would be my idea of a heaven I could enjoy)

It is Christian theology that you don't have to be good to get to heaven, you have to accept Jesus as your savior. (Or so my Lutheran upbringing would have it.) So, many just do that and call it a day. What a change from the days when to get to heaven you had to be a martyr, huh? It's true, you know. Muslims believe that to get to heaven you have to be Muslim, and that's about it. The rest of us have no plans to go to heaven anyway, but that doesn't make us inherently evil. Isn't it better to do the right thing because it's the right thing, and not to get something for ourselves? None of us can absolutely say what happens when we die, anyway. (I can say for myself what happens when you ALMOST die.) I'd say the best course of action for any person of any religion is to continually try to live a decent life, and hope your actions are pleasing to whatever god you serve.

While I believe in the Deity- the Creator and sustainer of all life upon planet Earth and in the entire universe (I am a Deist)- I do not believe in Heaven. I believe that upon our death, we must watch the consequences of our actions for a while in spirit or ghost form. This is our purgatory. Having to watch the evil we caused others would be enough punishment for anyone. Think of Ebenezer Scrooge. He was changed by seeing the consequences of his actions. After this time is up, we are reincarnated into another life.

Very good observation. And it is true; most religions emphasize either belief in something, or actions "worthy" of entrance. But some, like Muslims and some other faiths believe that being a Muslim is all that takes.
Without judging another's religion, or emphasizing mine own, I believe that any religion that encourages one to not be a kind and decent human being to others, and while depending only on being a member by name is foolish. No matter what you believe about God, it just makes no sense to believe that Someone like Him would simply overlook all the rotten things people do in "the name of religion" just because someone "belongs" in name only. Oh no, I believe that God does expect people to do and to be something better than just a "pew warmer."

It's like the "I want everything handed to me on a silver platter, but don't want to earn it" crowd. The Bible says that truely unknowledgable, about God, will not be condemed. It would not be in Gods loving way to condem the true unknowing. But, those that have heard or know of him and refuse to accept will be condemed.
Then they will cry and complain thay it's not fair. God should let them exist in heaven because it is their right. They will promise to change, once in Heaven. How many times did you tell that to your parents before being punished, or your children say it to you. As my parents used to say to me, "Although, you are willing to change and do right in the future, this punishment is for what you've done or failed to do in the past."

Not everyone believes that they have "to do"; some believe that they just have "to be". There are so many differing thoughts about heaven.

Yes it is, but this is human mankind, we desire all that is good for us,but we do not want to get by ourselves. Some believe that they are holy or innocent but they do a lot of things, while others they are thinking only on them selves and on their hunger of possession . This weird fact is because the human mind and heart aren't thinking the same. Everyone lives in his or hers world.

Yep that's human nature. The real road to Heaven is long and rough, and the gold paved streets are our reward. If we had gold paved streets on the way to Heaven, we'd never want to go there. Thanks for a good question :)

people say "im good, ill go" but how do you know that your definition of 'good' is the same as God's? Just because you think you will go, does not mean you will. Instead of guessing, finding a book that tells you how God says that we should live is a much better idea
