At conception, the DNA of the developing baby is not the same as the mother and not the same as the father's DNA. It's a completely new and unique human life.

Excellent question! I believe that human life begins at conception, one way or the other, but that's a great additional argument!

That all depends on perspective. From a scientific perspective at that time it is merely a zygote {Zygote: The cell formed by the union of a male sex cell (a sperm) and a female sex cell (an ovum). The zygote develops into the embryo following the instruction encoded in its genetic material, the DNA. - from Medicine.net}

At that point it has the potential to develop into a human being. If for any reason it is aborted at that point - either spontaneously or intentionally it is not viable. If you look at medical encyclopedias and dictionaries until birth it is called a fetus not a human.

It is your choice to make your own judgments when human life begins just as I have. I will not tell you you are wrong. Myself, I take the more scientific approach.

Take that DNA out of the female and see how "alive" it is. Life is more than DNA and a human form. It's consciousness which is not attained until later on in gestation. An embryo is no more 'living' than a sperm or egg is.

The life may begin at conception but the Constitution guarantees are for PERSONS. One day before birth, the fetus in NOT a person; one hour after birth, the baby is NOT a person if the birth has not as yet been registered.

If a mother kills her new-born before the birth is registered, technically, she did not kill a PERSON. Why is she then charged with murder??

I'm pro-life.

Human DNA does not offer any scientific proof to when life begins. This is a question of belief, not science.

If you want to play it like that, ok sure. I still say abortion should be allowed.

Is an acorn an Oak tree? Do you really feel exactly the same if you see a squirrel eat an acorn or watch a huge 500 yr old oak get cut down? Really?

That is true; however, it does not indicate life. For example, we have DNA samples from Ramses the Great, but that doesn't make him alive, poor thing.

depends on your view of when life begins. a growing tumor has dna as well...but can't live outside the body...

Although I don't believe in the Bible or any other "holy texts" as being divine (I am Deist), I still believe abortion is wrong. This is the very reasoning i use.

That is one way to think about it. There is not easy answer to this question, but the discussion should always continue.
