Successful military operations depend upon security. Seemingly innocent information the background in photos or video can give location information away to the enemy. This means that uncontrolled gathering of such data can present a security risk.

That being said, many soldiers do have cameras and capture quite a few images so I must assume you mean something out of the ordinary when you use the term "microcamera". Are you perhaps referring to hidden or unobtrusive video cameras?

This already exists with embedded reporting and specific individuals who have asked for, and been granted, authorization to capture data in this way.

Your question makes me wonder about an idea for all units to have encrypted, continuous recording of events. This could reduce instances of abuse of power, provide evidence in the event of wrongdoing, and even help in training through detailed analysis of successful and failed operations.

Perhaps you could elaborate on your original idea and the intentions behind it?

I'm here in Iraq now, and we have too many cameras over here as it is.......with all the news media. The military can't do anything secret without the media being all up their butt, trying to excercise "their right to a free press". This pisses me off to no end. I don't mind the right to free press, but not at the expense of our soldiers and the missions.

a micro camera would not be much of a defense against a gun or bomb. so rifles and missles do alot better.

as for as soldiers having cameras, most do, my son sent me all sorts of photos from Iraq, I saw schools being built, shopping centers open and so much more.
