I used to own a golden retriever and THEY are on the f*cking list for the breed specific legislation that was passed.

WTF?
Golden Retrievers along with MANY other breeds on that list...are the SWEETEST animals to walk the earth.

All dogs can be taught to be good, with the correct owners.

it's the OWNERS fault if something goes wrong ... NOT THE ENTIRE BREED!

ugh. I'm sick to my stomach over this right now

Seriously.
Out of all the horrible things that are happening in this world right now, this is what we choose to spend, time, money and resourses on. But rapists and murders walk around victimizing our loved ones and no one is doing anything about that.
What is wrong with this world?

Of course I am against BSL.

But how come nobody gets upset about all the other anti-dog legislation??? People on here rage against BSL, which is good, but what about the other laws??? Are restrictive anti-dog laws OK then as long as they restrict ALL BREEDS???

If you live in California, I feel for you. If I lived in a state as anti-dog as California, I'd be looking to move.

There are numerous anti-dog legislation being introduced all the time, all over the country. MS/N, not to mention other anti-breeding laws, DDLs, limit laws, PAWS, not to mention the unbelievable nasty HEART (SOUNDS all warm and fuzzy doesn't it) law in Albuquerque. BSL is only a part of the anti-dog law problem. Want to fight them? Start by joining the yahoo group petlaw, it will be eye opening. No, you don't hear much about them in the news, they are passed ever so quietly, slowly making it harder and harder to own dogs.

I am totally against breed specific legislation.
It has little to do with breed and much more to do with bad owners and irresponsible people.
As a dog trainer I work with large aggressive breeds and have benn bitten only once by a poodle. I work with mainly Dobermans with bechavior and aggression problems. And I get bit by a poodle.
It is not the breed of dog but the person who owns it that does not take time a train the dog. They the person should be held responsible for the actions of their dog.

I understand your indignation, but not your language. There is no excuse to go around offending others just because you are ticked.

YES you DO have a good reason to be pissed but the time and place to blow off steam is not here, it is in your own state. It is in YOUR town. GET INVOLVED and hook up with other Animal Agencies who share your view and start contacting you lawmakers and tell them what you told us.

I too am VERY active in this arena and agree with you 100%, it is not the breed, but the HUMAN factor. If we don't teach our dogs that aggression is wrong; a sharp NO! STOP PLAYING with a dog that is getting too rough and correct it immediately, do not continue to permit growling or snapping EVER! I have seen so many children who teach their dogs to do this because they do not have the sense to realize that the dog is getting out of control... parents need to supervise their children better when it comes to pets in the home.

Parents are supposed to be the teachers, if they don't learn what is proper training for a dog, they either need to educate themselves or not bring an animal home.

Pet keeping is a full time JOB. Your dog was NOT born mean... you permitted it to GET mean. YOU are the more intelligent one, you must educate yourself about correct dog/cat/bird /other training and follow the advice like it says.

Yeah that legislation is bull crap we need to be against in all state because they will try to expand it ya know? All dogs can be bad, but its how you teach a raise them that makes them what they are. Dont hate the breed because of a stupid persons decision, we should be punishing the people that make these dogs this way, we should ban the people not the innocent dogs. They need to find another way to go about this. What they are doing is wrong, and need to be stopped, both the people trying to pass this law and the people making these dogs this way.
