There have been a few responses that claim that before the flood, all was vegetarian. I haven't heard this before...'Bill' says after the flood, God told Noah it was OK to eat the animals, as long as they had been bled first. That could mean either that nothing ever ate meat before or it meant they were told not to during the ride but it was OK now. Does anyone have a specific verse in regards to this?

Just pretending the story is even close to true - most any animal will drink milk -- adult or young. Carnivore or herbivore. (when we raised goats we gave the extra milk to the horses - they loved it)So the milk producers could have provided for many. However even they need nourishment and just recycling milk won't work - not enough to keep them producing - so even more an enigma is did Noah have a huge stash of hay for the herbivores? And if Noah had enough advance time he could have made a bunch of dried meat (jerky) to feed the carnivores - a lot easier to store and more nutritious than vegetable matter.

Never heard that everyone was a vegetarian before the flood before. Being that carnivores really do not survive on a vegetarian diet ( you can make a diet for your dog\cat but it has to be greatly supplemented - they didn't have one-a-days back then) Maybe the big cats, wolves and such just didn't exist - they evolved after the flood.

There is archaeological evidence of regional floods in the Mesopotamia area where these stories originate - places where villages have pretty much been wiped out - so a possibility of people surviving on some type raft for a short time - after years of embellishments you get the Noah myth.

Hi
My name is Bill and would like to shed some light if I can on your question. There is a good chance that carnivours were plant eaters. I know that this sounds funny but before the flood of Noah man was a vegaterian. If you read the account after Noah and his family came out of the ark God told him that from that point on he would be allowed to eat the flesh of animals. He did ask that the blood be bleed out of the animal first because God said that the life was in the blood. That is why Jewish people have things bleed or Kosher as they call it today.
The ark was about three football fields long also. Noah his three sons and daughter-in-laws worked on it for fourty years during which time Noah also preached to the people on earth about the comming destruction. Apoint of interest is that it never rained before the flood. That is a question for another time. You might want to look at Mathew 24:36. Here Jesus speaks about Noah. It is pretty cool! Another point of interest is Isaiah 11:7
Well my friend thanks for putting up with me. I tend to get carried away.
Your friend Bill

there were no carnivores before the time of noah. even humans did not eat meat. the commandment for man to eat meat did not come until after the flood, and the same went for the animals.

just because an animal has sharp teeth does not make it carnivorous. look at a panda. they eat bamboo.

Queenie, you're taking this Noah's Ark business a bit too literally. I don't think the animals went on the ark, I think it was their DNA or something like that that would later create the animals.
The bible was written for an arable people, so it had to be told simply so they would understand.
For example, when Moses raised his hands and the Red Sea parted, it was not magic, once in so many centuries, the Red Sea does actually separate and people can wade across, but how to explain the moon and the tides to an arable people. Think about it.

Before the flood all animals (and maybe all people) ate only plants (vegetarian). God changed this after the flood (a new curse).

God told Noah to bring extra food and animals to feed the animals. You would know this if you just read the bible. The flood and events surrounding it are told about in Genesis.

I don't know. I can hypothesize from my current experience with domestic cats that they could have survived on a vegetarian diet (and you can't get more scientific than that). And just because I don't know the answer to a specific part of a situation does not mean that I have to reject the whole story.

Every winter bears go into hibernation for about half the length of the flood. Every species has the potential to hibernate. That would be the simplest way to solve the lack of food problem, and the danger of being around large predators.

All life was/were vegetarians at that time. It wasn't until AFTER the Flood that carnivores came into existence.
