Yesterday during our conversation my girlfriend said to me that the thing she most likes about me is that I am very sweet and really down to earth, which she says is uncommon in men! What does it mean when a girl says this? I know she is looking for a serious long-term relationship.

Someting that's very crucial when figuring out where a woman's head is in a relationship...don't listen so much to what she says, pay more attention to what she actually does...
After she told you how sweet and down-to-earth you are, did she then jump your bones and start to furiously makeout, have hot monkey sex, etc with you? If so, she's saying "I really like you and these qualities make me really hot for you."
Or, after she said this, was she distant and uninterested in you physically and/or sexually? If the latter is the case, she's saying "you're a nice guy, but not the sort of guy I want to date."
Notice how it's not the her statement of you being "nice and down-to-earth" that's important here; it's what she does after saying it. It doesn't necessarily have to be sex that she backs said statement up with, but if she really likes you she will back it up with something. For example, if she tells you how "nice and down-to-earth" you are and then proceeds to talk about how she wants three kids someday with a "how does that appeal to you" look straight into your eyes--yeah, she's likes you and is saying "I hope we're together a long time".
Get the idea? Lots of guys are "nice and down-to-earth". What you're looking for is some sign from her indicating that these qualities do, in fact, make her hot for you.

"You are Sweet". Translation: She is evaluating your future potential. She feels there is a pretty good chance that she can get you to do things for her when she wants them, and there will be a lot of things, so you score points here.
"really down to earth". Translation: She has determined that your expectations are low enough so that whatever SHE does, even if it isn't a lot, will probably be enough to keep you happy. You get points there too!
"uncommon in men". Translation: Of all the guys she has met so far, you have the most potential for her to twist into the pretzel that she wants. Also, she probably inwardly dislikes men and feels women are superior.
Careful for what you wish for!!!!

I agree with List. It also means that she'll cheat on you whenever she damn well pleases and she knows you'll take it. Trust me on this one.
I think LAWKEEPER makes an EXCELLENT observation as well.
I'd guess she's recently cheated on you and is thinking out loud as to whether she should continue screwing the other guy who is probably a "bad boy" type and who treats her like the HO she is/wants to be.
Be careful of this one.

I have no idea...maybe she just likes how you are as a person, she loves it. Your open to her and open about other things...its just something some or alot of girls like. I find it nice. But long-term relationship...Idk...
she just likes you for you and that your not acting like anything or anyone else...but you.
