in my opinion Buddhism is the most tolerant religion because its tenets are based on rationalism and non violence in that religion only even women can also become monks. Hinduism is not a religion at all. every caste in Indian society is a religion and there were blood baths between one caste and another caste. in the name of religion, Christians and Muslims indulged in holy wars and jihads and scientists like Copernicus and Galileo were murdered because they expressed scientific opinions contrary to what was said in the bible. but in the case of Buddhism, acharya nagarjuna and other monks caused scientific temper and it spread through out the world not by kings, sultans and traders who ultimately made other countries as their colonies. Buddhist monks spread through nonviolence and scientific principles

If you at all want me to answer your question the so called 'religious' way, I would say, in the present days' context of religious practices and also analysing the history as well as the need of it's origin, I can see today none's better than the other if it is not Buddhism. And I would say so even though I'm not a follower of Buddhism and hence risk the wrath of my "so called" religious Gurus.
What is religion?
Religion is a particular institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices "relating to the divine" - people’s beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life. Every Religion, when originated was abided by the very same basic objective without which they wouldn't have been called a religion. Though the practices differed from time to time, place to place and subtly to serve some very specific needs of a specific region or race or tribe at a point of time, none of the Religions in their true nature and teachings has never taught to hate or differentiate. Only to Hate what is against the welbeing of humanity, and this world - In Vedas, Quran, Bible or Tripitaka... . Ages passed by since these religions were originated. Time changed. So is this world. Changes have taken place in people's thought process and lifestyle. Won't you agree those specific needs from where different practices of different religions and beliefs emerged, have gone through lots of changes? So, there comes the constant need of adapting to the changing needs of the society and hence updating the old practices, replacing or modifying them with something that suits with the Time; so that it can be more tolerant more flexible and more benevolent to the mankind. But not to lose the focus which is PEACE, GOODNESS & LOVE. And what we all are now experiencing in the name of religion is just the opposite - It's high time we all should realise that we are only losing our religion - in the name of it.
Shame on you those who have been fighting in the name of beliefs, religion and GOD. And I would suggest you, please take your names off the religion because NOT GOD or His benevolence, YOU ARE THE WORSHIPERS OF THE DEVIL- Be it SATAN, be it JAHANNUM or be it SAITAN.
Still there is Time before it's too late- before we and this beautiful abode of ours are both extinct. Then whom to battle with, who to think about religions? Think PEACE. Let it be your Religion- the happiest of all - So be It - 'Amen'

Buddhism is most tolerant when a Buddhist is tolerant.
Hinduism is most tolerant when a Hindu is tolerant.
Christianity is most tolerant when a Christian is tolerant.
And so forth ...

Hinduism is the most tolerant in the idea that it accepts that many other beliefs can be true.
Christianity is tolerant in the idea that it teaches its followers to live in peace with others - no matter what their beliefs

I think the first answer of Rewsna's is correct. Religion is in itself a source of tolerance or intolerance. It is the people who purport to be followers of those faiths that define tolerance. I'll place that onus into each individuals hands.

None. All 4 have persecuted those from other faiths during one time or another, inspite of what the religions themselves teach.
And for those of you who are anti-religion: Don't presume to use this in your agenda, because atheists have done the very same thing.

I wish that I could say that Christians are the most tolerant but the attacks and name calling that I have witnessed on this forum alone tell me that many people calling themselves Christians have forgotten the main message of Christ - Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might and love your neighbor as yourself...To answer your question, I believe that the majority of Buddhists are the most tolerant.
