He's a good jockey but not of the class of the greats like Shoemaker, Piggott, Eddery, Cauthen even Bailey.
But he's good and when you ride for Godolphin, you must be good.

Frankie Dettori is like a Jerry Bailey in Europe...Yes sometimes he is a little over rated ....But when u make a name for yourself and u make the bread and butter pay offs..Your name will come up alot. So if u watch the Breeders Cup Race u always here his name in races...And when u watch the grass races His name will Always be in the TOP 3 ....But i agree with ya hes over rated/

I never did like Frankie but after watching him on Swain in the Breeder's Cup Classic my view changed to active dislike. Before the race Swain was looking good behaving fine until Frankie preening for the cameras tapped him with the whip and got an immediate bad reaction from Swain. Frankie wasn't smart enough to figure out Swain didn't like it or else wanted to prove he was in charge, so he tapped him a few more times with Swain strongly showing his displeasure. After Frankie stopped tapping him he settled down and the race proceeded. Coming down the stretch Swain is running beautifully in front with the race in hand until Frankie whips him which results in Swain crabbing towards the grandstands with Frankie still whipping him. Two horses pass them before Frankie stops whipping at which time Swain straightens out , but too late to do better than third.
I don't know if it is correct to say he is overrated because he is a talented jock; unfortunately he is also a jackass with an ego.

Horse Racing is under pressure. It is now one of the least reasons people go into a betting shop. The tabloids are thinking of removing the racing section. A glamourous talented jockey like Frankie is carrying the sport on his back

He may well be good on his home tracks but he doesn't go any good in Oz. I don't think he can handle Australian racing where the fields race much tighter than internationally.
