God Bless your cat that she has had 17 years of life!!!! It sounds like you are wonderful to her and love her dearly. We had our first cat Sandy, who lived to be 19 years old. At one time, she was about 11 pounds, and when she passed on, she was not even 8 pounds. I think it is still a good sign that she'll eat the pounce treats for you. I guess you've tried the soft food, etc and well, I know when one of our dogs got really sick, there was Nutri-Cal. Not sure if there is something equivalent for cats. The dog came down to not wanting to eat anything, but loved this stuff and all he had to do was lick it! It's in pet shops to be sold. I say check with the vet. too, is your cat hydrated? Is she still drinking water? Able to get to the litter pan? I think the day a cat or dog can't be who they are, and who you've known them as, is the day you want to do the unselfish thing and take her to the vet. to not have to suffer or be in pain, but to move on to her next life, where she can eat whatever she likes 'cause there, she can!!! :) Good luck!

my cat is 16 and in the same shape. I took him to the vet recently for a check up. They found nothing wrong with him. But you should have him checked just in case. Sometimes having their thyroid checked can tell you what may be going on. My kitty likes fancy feast. try different flavors. My cat does not like the ones with bits and pieces too much. I know it's hard but try not to give the pounce treats and see if he doesn't prefer something different. Good luck.

You need to take your cat to the vet. Only they can give you an actual diagnosis of what is going on. They may be able to recommend something for your cat. Just because it's 17 does not mean it's dying. Yes, I agree with others that that is old, but I've seen cats live 20 years or longer. You have to hope for the best....and that is taking it to the vet.

have you seen the vet?
she is very old and my guess will be that she is ill. you should take her to the vet have her checked out.
as for food try mixing her senior food with some kitten food or wet food, science diet has this great senior can food and a little bit of warm water then add her dry food. this should help her gain weight if she is not ill.
but talking from experince i just went the same thing with my dog three montes ago, she may be reaching her end, you should consider that fact and decide what you will want to do if she is really ill.
my dog was on medications for pain and indections and all kind of vitemin pills and powders for the last year of her life, she lost 7 kg in one year before we decided the best for her is to put her down(a week before she was put down she weighted 20 kg the day we put her down she weighted 18 kg).

Honey shes 17. I hate to break it to you, but your cat is dying of old age.
Just be glad she lived that long. Most cats and dogs arent as fortunate as yours is. Maybe you should start building a box, sweetie. Im sorry. At least this way you will have time to plan a proper funeral for her. Im sorry for bearing such bad news, but I mean your cat is 17 years old. Thats like a person being 130 years old. Its a VERY old age.
Bless you and your cat, hun. Dont worry, God will reunite the two of you someday.

The cat probably has bad kidneys or a thyroid problem. You should get the cat checked out and either treated or put to sleep. Too many people let the cats go until they are skeletons and that is so cruel. They are usually starving and metabolizing their own muscle!!!!

Use hard food but add water to it. She proobably lost her back teeth and can't chew on the hard stuff. Easy on the pounce treeats though they can be bad when given too much.

That's what happened to my cat when he was 14. He has since passed on... but what helped before that was that cat food for multi-cat households. He really enjoyed that. Good luck sweetie!

With her age, food isn't the issue. I most commonly see, going by your brief description of symptoms, kidney disease, lymphoma, hyperthyroidism, or some other neoplasm (cancer). A vet and bloodwork are warranted.

any indoor cat food will work, to get her started on it, give her a thrid of a cup of chicken broth in a saucer, then when she wants more, add just a little to the food.
