To my knowledge, as long as you stay clear of the poopy litter, everything should be fine. But you should still talk to your dr. about it.

I had four cats when I was pregnant. My husband wouldn't clean the kitty boxes so I did I got toxoplasmosis. The baby was fine and the cats would come to me when the baby cried. One cat even slept curled around the baby moniter. The cats would panic untill I went in and picked up the baby.
If you must clean the boxes yourself wear a mask and rubber gloves. Then wash well after.
The cats were a comfort to me after I kicked my husband out for being an insensitive, uncaring, jerk !!!!!!
I did keep the door to the babys room closed so the cats didn't curl up with her. Cats don't take a babys breath but they love small warm places like the bassinet and crib. My cats loved the baby and as she got older I made sure she didn't pull wiskers or tails. She is twenty now and those cats are gone but have been replaced with more and they all sleep with her.

It is a myth that you have to get rid of your cats when you get pregnant. I have 3 kids and 2 cats and I have had the cats a lot longer than the kids. I spoke to my OBGYN when I was pregnant the fist time and he told me that toxoplasmosis which is past in cat feces is contracted by the cat by eating rodents and/or raw meat. If you have house cats and they are not exposed to the above mentioned foods then they are unlikely to carry the bacteria. Also if you have pretty much had cats your whole life then you've been exposed and had a chance to develop antibodies/immunity to it. If you are really concerned talk to your OBGYN but don't make any rash decisions to get rid of your pets. Very uninformed people will tell you to do this for the sake of your baby but it is NOT true.

Uhhh u dont have to give up your cats while you are pregnant - i have 3 cats and i am 5 months pregnant - the only thing you should stay away from is the cat box - and if no one is there to help you wear gloves to change the box and wash hands really good afterwards

you still can get pregnant if you have cats. and you still can take care of them while pregnant but is not recomended to mess with the cat litter when pregnant. maybe get one of those electric cat little boxes that cleans it on its own or something. or where a mask and gloves when you do it. and when you have the baby make sure the cats dontgo by the baby. keep then out of the way

To solve the problem before it become an real issue, get rid of the cats to another loving family.

Here's yet another occasion in life in which you will have to choose.

If you're mature enough to have children, then you are mature enough to realize that you aren't comfortable with the kitties around (for fear of contracting whatever the hell it is pregnant women get from cat feces), and you will have to send them away.

I have two cats, also, and when I was pregnant it was not a problem. You just need to make sure you have NO contact with their little box. Please have someone else to that job. Otherwise you should be perfectly fine!!

ship them to your parents or family because you can get sick and your baby can also if you handle anything with cats during pregnancy! Get rid of them once you know if your pregnant, you don't want nothing to happen to that baby in you stomach ship them off or don't get pregnant please:)
