Tell her to get her GED - go to you local community college, they will have the answers you seek.

Absolutely! There are a number of different ways this can be done. First things first. Contact your local school board and see if they have night classes that are designed for adults to complete high school. If that is not available, check with your closest junior or community college. Many of them offer "equivalecy ratings" in some of their courses. That means that the school will let her "challenge" the course or the subject by taking a test. If she passes it, she will be allowed to use that equivilency rating in her future dealings in school. Most school districts offer the GED program, but in many cases, colleges aren't as impressed by these as they should be. Maybe because many of the people who pass the tests buy books that are designed to prepare them for the ged tests and they don't really have a "graduate equivilency", which is what GED stands for; graduate equivilent diploma. Finally, there is the option of doing an online program that offers the high school diploma as its focus. Be very careful and check into the site well before using it. Make sure that they are accredited by the state in which you live and are accepted by the college she wants to attend.
I hope this helps.

HeII yes she can. A woman gradated high school last summer and I think she was 89. At that age I don't think I would return to school but I have found in my life that if you want something bad enough you will find a way to achieve it.

Tell her to go for it and never look back. It will be a real balancing act for her so give her some support when things get chaotic. And they will get crazy from time to time.

She'll need to get her GED before going to college. She can inquire about the GED at the local Regional Office of Education. Once she passes the GED, she'll need to take the ACT and SAT to have colleges consider her for enrollment. If she scores well, she may qualify for scholarships. If she scores poorly, she can most likely attend a junior college.

Absolutely. The first step is for her to get a GED and then apply to colleges that offer the program she wants to pursue. She may even be able to get some credits (in college) for having work experience. It is best to speak with an academic advisor about that possibility.

Here are some resources for her...

Tell her "good luck and never give up on her dreams!" ;-)

yes. she can go to Adult Learning Centres to finish her high school and get regular credit for completion. the only thing that will stop her is herself. once she's done high school and she wants to attend college, the ppl at the learning centre can direct her which college suits her, which prerequisites she needs, courses to take.....she's set! the only other thing is that i would suggest to not look beyond the task at hand; otherwise it can feel overwhelming or unattainable.

She can get her GED and then enroll in college and succeed in graduating from college. I think she will probably be more successful then an 18 year old whom goes to college. Good luck in what ever you choose.

She can take college courses to get her high school diploma or GED. After that she can go to college for whatever she wants to do.

Yes, in fact this has been done by people quite a bit older as well. Encourage your friend that all things are possible.
