I'm not a religious person either but in my opinion people who push their religion on others are not secure in their own beliefs. If you truly were why would you feel inclined to try and force their ideas down other peoples throats......it's insane people are still doing this..........

I GOT TIRED OF PUSHING A BABY CARRIAGE?

Actually I don't PUSH religion, I believe, just as you do, that each of us has a riight to believe what we want to, a christian would know this. That "freewill" means that some people choose not to believe in God, and every atheist friend I have ever had is just as good of a person (often better because they don't say - "God D%^$" or - "Go to H#$$") as any christian friend I've ever had.

I'd like to suggest, that if people tell you that you are going to HE$$ if you don't believe in God, then you simply tell them "OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD THAT MEANS I'LL SEE YOU THERE SINCE PEOPLE WHO JUDGE OTHERS GO TO HE$$ TOO"

Ok, That was harsh, but you get my drift. Yeah, I believe, and I personally think you have the right to believe how you choose. Also I am sorry for your loss, but you do not have to explain to anyone WHY you believe the way you do. The same exact thing can happen to two seperate people, one will turn to believing in God whille the other turns to NOT believing - it's the human condition.

You're angry and not so rational. Hey, I agree hvrio. He has the point there. I hate it when people push it to me too but that's no reason for me to stop thinking for a moment about what they're saying. You push them and they'll push it back harder to you and so on. Why don't you just calm down?

I like the story ^^ am not a Christian though

A man went to a barber shop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: “I don't believe that God exists.”

“Why do you say that?” asked the customer.

“Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.”

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: “You know what? Barbers do not exist.”

“How can you say that?” asked the surprised barber. “I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!”

“No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.”

“Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens, is people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!”- affirmed the customer.“That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.”

Additional notes: watch you spelling, grammar, and punctuations.. it's very hard for me to read your text.. <<-- err, but I don't care about this one.

Anyway, here's another thought. Okay, so maybe God is not real to you but you still live in this world with lots of people. What will you do if you know that's there's a hole in front of a road? It can't be seen very clearly.. I think most good-hearted people including you(if you have good heart, that is) will tell the other people about it so they won't fall into the hole. So, just chill out. They say they want to save you and they really meant that because they BELIEVE that they need to save you. It's just normal.

Why do you push atheism?
As for looking down noses isn't this what you are doing now?
Most people do not push religion. Heck, the churches don't even come to my house inviting me to salvation except Jehovah's people. I'd have to come to them so nobody is pushing religion at you. As for the internet and places like Yahoo Answers then this is a place where such things asre discussed or would you rather have anything religious christianity in particular sensored?
Then there goes freedom of speech. Accept that people too have a right to express their beliefs and spirituality and just because you cannot accept them should not mean that others should be sensored and should not discuss the ideas and even promote faiths. I am sick to the back teeth of evolution shoved at me by the media but I wouldn't ban it!

You are still searching for answers because even Atheism doesn't answer it all for you. I don't look down at you at all, and I'm sorry if you've gotten that feeling from Christians. I sure do sense anger in your question. Perhaps something has happened to you in the past that has impacted you significantly. I'm not going to attempt to provide answers, because I don't think they will get through the hurt & anger and satisfy you. You most certainly have the right to believe what you want, but there will come a day where you will be forced to acknowledge the thing you hate so much right now. I'm sorry...

I'm sure they are out there but I have never heard anyone, except the door-knockers push their beliefs. Some people just feel they have a responsibility as a "whatever" to at least attempt to "save" you. I am a Christain but don't have a lot of the standard beliefs and don't agree with some of what my church preaches but I go and take with me whatever I feel I can use. The rest, I just let everyone believe what they want.

If you are talking about when people make a casual comment saying "God Bless" or "Bless You" after hearing about a troubling time in your life or when you sneeze, most don't mean it literally or as a way to convert you. Just like when people say: "Oh My God!" most people (I disagree) don't think they are taking the Lord's name in vain.

Having read your comment about seeing your brother murdered explains some of your anger and frustration. The only explanation that I can give to that is I believe (against what my church teaches) God has given us free will to make choices. I don't believe He intercedes everytime someone prays and I don't believe that the answer is sometimes "No" as I have heard. As far as the children who are suffering, I believe that it is up to all of as humans to take care of those who CAN 'T take care of themselves. (But not those who choose not to.)

My biggest concern is for your children. You were given the opportunity to learn about Jesus and God and your religion. Then as an adult you made choice to disagree and change your beliefs. It bothers me that they apparently won't be given the same opportunity. For the sake of your relationship with your family, will you consider letting one of them take your children to church? That way they will have the same opportunity to make an informed choice. You can still express your beliefs and reasons.

The reason Christians feel the need to "push" their religion is because they interpret the bible to mean that Christ told them to push it. There is a verse where Christ tells his disciples to go into all the world and spread the good news/teach the Gospel. Besides this, they also believe that if people choose not to believe in Jesus Christ they will go to hell for all of eternity. So, to them, they only get one chance to help Jesus to save your soul. I know plenty of Christians who do not look down on people who are atheists, but are instead afraid for them.

They try to make you feel bad because they think that you will feel a lot worse if you don't believe in Christ Jesus than if you do--and for a lot longer.

Besides, it might not really be intended to make you feel bad. Look at it this way, you say you are an atheist, and that is fine. No sweat off of my back. But, let's say that you are correct, and that Christians are wrong.

So what? So they go around in this one life of theirs experiencing a little bit more drama than you do. In the end it is all black. There is no punishment for you or for them. Nothing matters. In 1000 years or 100,000 years or a million years, you, them and all of your and their descendents will be dust. Nothing...matters....

Now, let's say for a second that there is a spiritual reality that man hs been made blind to in order for him to learn to conquer the material world. And that this reality holds the key to true happiness, and that every single word, thought and deed will be reviewed by you at some point in time from a broader, spiritual, connected perspective. Let's say that Christ's teachings help us along our intended path of spiritual evolution by showing us the way, truth and life we should lead. Wouldn't you then have a lot more to risk and lose by denying a spiritual reality?

There is an old saying...why not pray? What do you have to lose? Your breath?

God Bless You and Yours! And may the Light of Christ Jesus shine upon you until the day that you realize that he is your savior.

actually I hear ya, i am a different type of christian, but i totally agree, even the type of christian that i am has been condemned to hell. I don't get it either, that is why i make my own guidelines about what i believe. It is annoying how they push it down you're throat, but all we can do is keep being the best person we can possibly be, but there is no real answer as to what you are supposed to say or do. keep loving

now you're just having an argument, not a conversation...

As a Christian, it will be difficult to bridge the gap between your lack of belief in God and my certainty, but please know that those who offer to pray for you or worry about your future are doing so from a perspective of having been lost themselves and then finding their true home with the Heavenly Father. It is an invitation to share in your true inheritance. However, having said that...no one should try to "push" their religion on you or look down their nose at you. That is the opposite of the way God's love manifests itself through our Lord Jesus Christ. You are absolutely free to choose to open yourself to the message or turn away. And this is a secular society so you are absolutely correct in saying that in America you have the freedom to believe anything you choose, or to choose to not believe in anything at all. I apologise for the well intentioned and ill intentioned comments that have frustrated you so. I hope I have not added to them. Peace to you, friend.

I was answering a question on faith the other day and telling people that even athiests have to have faith in something even if it isn't god. I was saying you have faith in everyday life. Even if you don't realize it you have to have faith in order to get out of bed and stand up. You just have different faith then us christians. That doesn't make you a bad person though. If you do good things for your family and community then you are just as good of a person as anyone else on this earth. I agree with you because those of us who believe in God are taught that we aren't supposed to judge anyone because he is the ultimate judge. So, don't listen when people judge you anymore. You are who you are and that doesn't make you bad.
