knoppix started the Live CD industry, and it is the one most thought of when people recommend trying a live CD.

HOWEVER, I would like to issue a different opinion. People think they can try Knoppix, and if they like it, tell it to install. Not really true.

Knopper actually has never perfected the installer.

And,when you log onto knoppix.org for help when you have install problems, you will encounter a really surly moderator, who uses words based on the suffix "fool" to describe anyone who tries to install Knoppix. He doesn't even back off and let others help on HD install, he is really surly.

So, please deprecate Knoppix, and move on to Kanotix; or pclinuxos, which are actually superior for HD install. And, if you log onto kanotix.org, Mr. Kano himself sometimes helps out. He even once added a video driver when I had problems with my Sys card.

I believe you have an AMD 64 processor, and want linux, correct?

Well first you have to decide what distrobution of linux you would like.

I recommend you start out with knoppix. You can either buy knoppix on a CD for a few dollars and have it sent to your house (i recommend this) or download the .iso file yourself and burn the file to a disc. Burning it to a disc and running of your own home-made disk is a little more tricky and i wouldn't do this unless you know a fair amount about computers.

Here's the link to get knoppix.
