I would eat a little bit of everything. You can't say "Hey, this tastes like crap". Try not breathing as you swallow. It will help a little.

Okay...lying is never the best answer...you will probably only prolong the issue by subsequent invitations. But there is no reason for being rude either. My grandfather had an expression which always got a chuckle and yet got him out of this type of situation without offending anyone or encouraging "bad behavior"...

"It was good what there was of it, and enough of it such as it was..." This always got a good laugh but never committed him either way!

I tell them that my crohn's disease seems to be acting up and that I really don't feel well. Most people that would invite me to dinner know I have CD, and know that food affects how I feel, so they'd probably believe me.

That's pretty tough. Just be nice, don't get a lot to eat, and try to eat what you have....Tell them how good the food is, etc. - just don't eat more than you have to!

out of respect you should eat a small serving so that you don't offend the person that is serving it to you. believe me I have had my fare share of really bad foods served to me. so just suck it up and next time invite the person to your place and you do the cooking.

Been there, done that.....

just put small portions on your plate...try to eat as much as you can ...compliment the cook and say how good it was , but you can't eat another bite.

Just be nice. Good luck

try to talk as much as you can and just pick on the food..

if you tell amusing stories, your hosts won't even notice you pick on the food..

fake bulging eyes and say you have a bad case of "BLEEECH"
then fall to the ground and say you need to go home to rest.

You eat as much as you can bring yourself to do, and compliment the chef.

That's what grown-up people do. It could also be why grown-up people often have indigestion.
