Hello and thank you for viewing my question!

Soon, I am getting a puppy (a maltese/yorkie mix) that is the same breed as my current dog (she will be a year in August). Can I feed them the same food (Eukanuba puppy, small breed), or will I have to feed them seperately? I plan on doing this until the new puppy is a year, and then switch to Eukanuba Small breed adult.
Thanks!
Kendra

It shouldn't be a problem. I have 5 dogs. Three are probably 9-11 yrs. old; one about 7; the other about 10. All would be considered "senior." I don't feed senior foods. I'm into a more holistic approach to pet food. Researching pet foods, I've found adult and senior seem to provide the same quality of life. Frankly, this is a big marketing tool for pet food companies (don't even get me started here). All my dogs are healthy and none had a good start altho' I do recommend a puppy food diet for puppies. Otherwise, my theory is this: you'll pay at the front end (high quality dog food) or at the back end when they get old (exorbitant vet bills). Any of these foods are good: Natural Balance, Evo by Innova, California Natural and (my favorite) Eagle Pack. Read labels on products...would it be healthy for you? I also add some high quality canned food -- not much--to their food and sometimes a little fresh meat or finely chopped fresh veggies. There are some good books out on natural pet care. I suggest you buy one. It can save you a lot of money in vet bills. There are many home remedies you can make yourself to help pets with certain problems; ie hot spots, eye & ear care, etc. Good luck!

Yes you can feed them the same food. In reality, a dog grows on the outside for a year & on the inside for 2 years. Alot of vets recommend that you feed puppy food for 2 years. So it's okay. If you're still unsure after all these answers, consult your vet. We have a puppy right now & our other dogs are full grown. What I do is mix some puppy food into the adult food. They all seem to be doing just fine.

Expect lots of trips outside, probably about every 45 minutes or so. Make sure you pick up some Natures Miracle to clean up the spots on the carpet that will happen. Collar, leash, bowls, treats, toys, bed, crate, puppy pads to help with house training, puppy food (find out what the pup has been eating so you can give the same to help the pup from getting diarrhea), tooth brush and tooth paste. She will not sleep through the night the first few nights she is there because she will be missing her litter mates and mom, plus everything will be strange to her and she may be a little lethargic. She also may not eat very much for a day or so because of the new environment.

You can feed them both puppy food but cannot feed the puppy adult food, his digestive system is too weak...puppys are normally fed puppy food for 12months so your year old dog should only just be out of puppy food...if you did feed them both puppy food the older dog may need a lot to benefit from nutrients etc...if Im not helpfull enough may I suggest visiting the Eukanuba site and contacting them by email?

I have always bought puppy brand food for a dog that is less than
4 months old. They are developing just as a human baby. Also
they have puppy teeth that may not be able to chew the other foods. I would ask a vet just to be safe.

Yes, but you may want to monitor the older dog's weight. Sometimes the puppy food is richer than that for a grown dog. Make sure the dogs get plenty of exercise and you will probably have no problem.

Sure, just watch the older dog does not get fat. Puppy food has more fat and protein but other than that, its pretty much the same. Eukanuba is a good food.

Dog food is dog food. Just some claim to have more nutrients that growing puppies need. How can you know for sure that they do what they claim? You can't. So unless your dogs seem to have malnutrition, it's fine to feed them the same thing.

Yes you can, usually a dog is considered a puppy until it is at least 18 months old and then you would have to change his/her food to that of an adult.

Once the dog is one year old you should feed her adult food, the puppy food may be bad for her teeth and make her gain weight.
