If it is just watery, but stills smells okay it is fine...pour off the water and stir it up. If it has an errant odor it is probably a safe bet you should toss it. Fortunately, you will not get too ill from soured "queso de cotage"...it's not like chicken or other more volatile foods...
The expiration date is only a guide...it will usually last several days past the exp. date if your refrigerator is working properly or if it has not set out at room temp. very long.

I don't like cottage cheese.. but I don't think that it can spoil because it is already spoiled milk. the only way you could tell is is spoiled is if it is growiing the green stuff mold...If it taste bad don't eat it.. throw it out..
It is always best to eat it right away when you open it..

It will smell horrible! And it'll have an "off" color and be more "liquidy". But the smell you tell you immediately!
