In ancient times, the Goddess was worshiped by the majority of cultures. Interestingly, she ruled along side her lover/son cohort (the male Deity - or god). Some think she was revered above him, but I think it's more likely that they were equal in stature - and represented dual elements.
That, of course, was in a time when men and women were also of equal stature. Religion tells you a lot about society and culture. It's really just a microcosm of societal views.
Most societies were matriarchal at that time, and everything was passed down from mother to daughter - probably because it was easier to determine lineage in this way. At some point, male dominated tribes went on a war path of domination - and changed the course of society to a patriarchal one. Replacing the goddess in some cultures, and relegating her to a lesser role in others.
She still exists today - as Mary, Jesus's Mother, and Mary Magdalene his most beloved disciple.

Nope. A Father cannot be a woman. And Jesus Himself prayed to His FATHER in heaven...
Why should women play an equal role in the image of God? He is a Father, not a mother. Equal rights for women is a new idea, designed merely to try to tear down Christ and Christianity.

How can you be so sure that God isn't a fish?
Women are not men and God is neither of them, but a Spirit as the Bible calls Him. Being made in the image of God means that we share qualities like love, rightness and stuff like that.

Simple really, if God was female, He would be a Goddess not a God. However God isn't either sex. Read the Bible and you will see that He was a burning bush and other things when He spoke to Moses etc.

I'm positive God is neither male nor female. I believe that since God exists outside of nature It exists in a form we cannot comprehend on earth. I used the term Him because I consider God to be my Father, but it's just a convenience of terminology for me.

If I had to take a guess on the gender of someone who:
- Sent troops to kill every human and animal in a neighboring village
- Kills off the firstborn of a whole nation
- Drowns all but a single family of humans
I'm thinking it's probably not a mommy type. Of course I could be wrong.

The image of God isn't negotiable by us -or shouldn't be.
Both men and women have very important roles in God's kingdom - don't feel slighted - God loves you just as much.
The bible does refer to God, and of course, Jesus, as He.
Read the BIble, of women like Esther, Deborah, Mary Magdalene ( the first to see Christ after his resurrection, and not the DaVinci Code representation ) and you will be encouraged.
God apparently has a great heart for women, and had wisdom in making both sexes and their roles.
God Bless.

God will not be pissed at anyone, if God can forgive us for our sins, we can be forgiven for calling God a he or a she. Nobody knows what God looks like and that's how it's supposed to be. What I do know for sure is, God is wonderful!

Because of Mother Earth. LOL.
Honestly, I don't think God is also a man. The image refers to spirit and in general the flesh. I don't think woman only play second fiddle or else there would have been just Adam in Eden while Eve would just be waiting outside for Adam to fall. Both man and woman started on equal footing. Both enjoyed their short stay in Eden. And both fell in disgrace and booted out from Eden.
