What should we do to get rid of them once and for all?

By the way, DIRTY here means corrupt, accepting bribe (not unclean or covered with dust and mud).
I ALWAYS respect GOOD cops, not BAD cops.

There are a tremendous number of controls in place to deal with corruption in police departments in the United States. Any large department will have an Internal Affairs office, the primary purpose of which is to investigate police misconduct and take action to prevent its recurrence (up to and including termination and referral to the District Attorney for criminal charges). Even with these protections, occasionally a culture of corruption will overwhelm a department to the point that it cannot police itself. This is the point where federal agencies step in and begin cleaning up the problem.

Two things make fighting corruption very difficult. First, the "thin blue line" attitude: police are a fraternity, and are accustomed to supporting one another on a daily basis. Usually, this is a good thing, but when dealing with corruption, it makes it very hard to find officers who will incriminate their coworkers. Second, the police know the tricks that police use in investigations. It's much harder to hunt the wolf than the sheep.

In any case, corrupt police are very rare in most developed nations, and most complaints about corrupt police are a poorly disguised attempt by a criminal to refocus attention away from their own improper behavior.

No. I've gotten speeding tickets when I deserved them and, though I've been extremely frustrated with myself for not noticing that the speed limit dropped by 10mph, I have never had any disrespect from a police officer.

I got a moody one once...but, I figure he didn't know me..he could have had heartburn...who knows? I get moody, too. And then everyone around me suffers! But I was running late for work that day and did what all evil late people do....and I paid the consequence....and learned to leave earlier.

But "dirty" cops? No. And I'm 45 and have lived in big cities all of my life....except when I was 9 and 10 years old....Dad was stationed in a small town. Oh, and I went to college in a small town.

Dude there will always be "dirty" someones in any line of work. There are crooked doctors, lawyers, teachers, clerks...etc. Dont downplay the good work that 99.9% of them do each day just because you think someone was done wrong over something. As for getting rid of them (I guess you are talking about the bad cops), you let the justice system take care of them...they get arrested as well. Just today three Boston PD cops were taken down.

I have dealt with them many times. You're best bet is to try to remain under the radar. If one targets you, get a lawyer involved.

As far as how to get rid of them? Good luck. You would have to catch them commiting a felony on tape and drop copies off at a television station and the Sheriff's office and let the deputy you talk to know that the press has a copy.

Have I dealt with them? I'm married to a police man.

And I find you very, very respectless. It's obvious that you have a lot of problems and that you're not satisfied with yourself at all.

I hope times will get better for you soon.
