This varies, my son got saved at 5, but some are not mature enough to make a decision until 9, 10 , 11 or 12.

Kids make their own choices about a lot of things with or without permission. All you can do is encourage Q&A and give true honest answers to the best of your ability. If it were me I'd also back up opinion with fact and make it known when I have a belief and explain why I believe it. When they have the fact they will make a better decision. It would be a mistake to say "you have to go to XYZ church because I said so." That's the sure way to lose them.

A child should ideally be given the choice from the beginning of their lives to think for themselves and come to their own conclusions.

I would guess my parents knew long before I actually told them given that from the age of 9 on I would put up a stink every Sunday about going to church and Sunday School. I told them myself though when I was 15.

When they are about 50 years old. LOL ;>
Really, just be talking to them, as opposed to preaching to them. Let them know from an early age that it is truly their decision. Let them know that you are open to whatever they decide and encourage them to explore different thoughts and ideas about God and religion.
As a parent, you hope that they make good choices, but you will always love them regardless.

A child is not old enough to. That is why they have parents, to guide them in moral issues. When they are adults they can revisit the creed and see if they agree with it.
