Ontop of garlic, try some brewers yeast in your dogs food alone.
It comes out in their skin and bugs don't like it.

I use a powder combination of Brewers Yeast, Garlic(fresh) and black Walnut... Sprinkle over food 2 times a week.
Also, I have been told that orange oil dilutes in water works too. Spray it on your pets. Only a few drops to a spray bottle does the trick.
Good Luck.

Stuffing their beds with southernwood (a common garden plant) really helps stop the fleas getting comfy there, but it won't kill fleas already on the dog
