You must be brave and very wise. It isn't easy to learn to think for oneself when religion has always been there to do it for us. I admire you and others like you. You are the people that will bring us all forward and make this world a better place to live in. People say you can just leave your religion but you already know it isn't really that easy. It's just one of many things the religious people can't understand.
Here is my advice. Keep it to yourself for a while. Don't tell anybody you know unless they are a very close and trusted friend who would not judge or turn away from you. Slowly and carefully pull away. The easiest way to do this is to move away so your current congregation doesn't notice you've stopped attending the mosque. Then just do your own thing - think, learn, study and involve yourself with things and people that motivate you personally.
When you are ready there are suppport groups out there. Atheist, humanitarian and non-religious groups for former Muslims, Christians and cult members. In the US there are American Atheists, the Society for Free Thought and a number of Secular Humanitarian groups which can be found in Unity Villages and Temples.
A lot of people never get into the whole support group thing and thats fine too. At some point you may want like minded individuals or you may choose to study other religions and find a better fit for you. In any case I do suggest you spend at least a year exploring these options to try avoid being swayed by others. This is a personal thing. Just take some time and sort things out for yourself. It took me several years and I am still studying but I am enjoying that part of my life now almost like learning is my new religion. I wish you happiness in life.

I have researched this term and have found this. "A distinction is also made between "Murtad Fitri", an apostate who was born of Muslim parents, and "Murtad Milli", an apostate who had converted into Islam initially."
Obviously to become murtad is to counter convert from Islam. What is my personal advice? This depends on your country of origin. If your life may be in danger you might want to be careful who you share this information with. If you feel you can counter convert without harsh penalties, then I can only direct you to your heart and conscience.
If you truly believe in another religion or philosophy it is up to you to be true to what you believe.
I personally believe in being spiritually independent because along with many good things about religion, comes a lot of dysfunctional crap. Don't worry there is a higher power. Man has been since the dawn of time trying to put a labels on him/her/it/whatever. God in God's largest aspect is the unknowable. Nobody should be able to persecute you for having different ideas on God. It is only their hubris and indoctrination that causes otherwise.
No matter what path you chose I hope you chose the path that incorporates compassion. We can always change our ideas about God but we can never take back suffering we have caused or omitted to alleviate. But we can always have a change of heart, which is exactly what God weights, not our intellectual struttings.

Dear brother, if you are serious in your query you already became murtad at the time when you first thought about becoming one, because ALLAH sees the intentions and thoughts. Now prepare yourself for the hellfire which is prepared for people like you. AND if you were joking then it was the worst joke i have ever seen. MAY ALLAH enlighten your heart with true faith.

I know i shouldn't probe, but can i ask what's the reason?
I aint a muslim, but i am curious though.:)
I guess everything boils down to how u feel deep down inside. When you are a muslim, did it make any sense to u spiritually? If a religion does not make much sense to you in some way and you feel you are an empty shell inside, maybe it's time to start pondering abt some qns. The choice is up to u. Never be forced to conform because u are the only one answerable to yourself and to God. I think you know what you want already inside. May the Lord bless you and clear your mind to help you know what path to take. I hope you be strong.

Good, You have made a great decision.
Turn away from Islam. If you live in a Muslim country, I ask you to be very careful in doing so.
Leave Islam and become a Christian.
