I think the translation should have been MURDER, not Kill. and I also think it appiles to humans only.
We should not Murder people, the bible is full of killing

murder. the original Hebrew/Chaldee word "ratsach", translated kill actually means: 'to dash to pieces', 'put to death,murder'.
Is talking about murdering (killing for non- approved reasons) other humans.
As far as animals? all that were declared fit to eat need to be killed first. Then properly bled.
