Just curious. I know people don't always like answering machines. And thse days we so often have to deal with them and the recordings where we answer questions by pushing numbers on the phone's number pad.

I typically leave a message because I usually have a reason for the call. Once in a while, I'm just calling to chat, so I won't always leave a message then; or sometimes I won't if I'm going to try to reach that person via a different phone or IM, for example.

I usually hang up, depending on the importance of the call and who I am calling. When I call my friend Patrick, who rarely answers his phone, I leave a message because he usually returns my call if I do. If I'm calling Ethan, my other friend, I don't leave a message because like most people, he never checks them, never returns the call, and usually when I call him it's not about anything important. I guess about 75% of the time I just hang up and try again later.

I try to break the code on their machine and pick up all their messages. Then I write down the important ones and call them again, leaving mine first and then tell them the other messages. They always call me back first.

I leave a message. I hate it when the answering machine says hello and there is a long pause so that you are talking thinking a real live person answered. It is rude.

Business has fired all the people who used to be the first access to their business and settled for an impersonal voice. It is just not conducive to good business. I mostly leave a message, but it depends on the call and the purpose.

I will always leave a message as there is nothing more annoying to come home and someone has phoned not left a message and hung up and you don`t know who it was. It also gets you worrying about family members etc incase they are hurt. So please everyone just say Hi it`s **** speak to you later at least then they will know who it is.

If it is important or I can just tell them by message, like to my brother I will, but most of the time I hang up.

I only leave messages when it's an important call. If I'm just calling to chat then I'll just try again later.

I hate it when people don't leave a message!!! Even if it is just a brief Hi, it's so-n-so. I always leave a message and I get on to my husband because he calls people (even his parents) and doesn't leave a message.

If you're going to hang up, make sure you do it BEFORE the beep ... its so annoying when people wait until they hear the beep and then they hang up ... like listening to my entire message was so enthralling that they had to wait and then leave me nothing but a "click" on my machine ... grr ... :-)
