In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (yes in the King James version), Paul offers a list of sins that would keep a person out of Heaven. Among those listed are theft, homosexuality, and adultery. However, it seems that only thieves and homosexuals are condemned out of the three. In Luke 16:18, Christ defined a man or woman who has divorced and remarried as also being an adulterer. So shouldn't remarried people be condemned as well? Why are the thieves and homosexuals, out of the three, the only ones that get picked on by fundamentalists? I thought people were not allowed to pick and choose what to follow out of the Bible.

The Redeemed, you are wrong. Both 1 Corinthians and Luke are part of the New Testament. If you read the Bible, you would have seen this for yourself.

Because they are hypocrites. They prate about the sanctity of marriage, yet the divorce rate is over 50%. Some of them would fight to the death over Gay marriage, saying marriage is sacred Yet, they condone divorce .
The biggest turn off about organized religion is their hypocrisy!

It also says in the Bible that if you divorce because of an adulterous spouse that you are not commiting adultery if you remarry.
Matthew 19:8and 9
8Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
It is not always so cut and dry. We are not "supposed" to judge or condemn others, but it happens, we after all are humans and do make mistakes.

Gods word teaches us no one sin is greater than the other. Many churches do condemn for divorce. Many, many years ago the church where I was saved told me that because I had been divorced in the past I could never be a minister in their church. Shortly after that I went non-denominal. Christians are like fruit trees. All fruit trees will have a bad fruit or two on it, but it doesn't make them all bad.

LOL! I love the responses. Nothing like a good double standard, eh? Ask about homosexuality... it's sin, sin, sin... Ask about it with divorce and adultery in the question, vrooom - mach 3 straight to the all forgiving Christ, the ancient use of language, the hazards of literal interpretation, the hypocrisy in action! Dam that's good. Thank you!

The language used in the bible is an EXTREMELY old form of english, called old english, and also it was translated (NOT perfectly) from the greek and hebrew in which it was originally written, God has since, through his prophets, clarified this point and obviously since all the christian religions agree on this, there is nothing wrong with being divorced and remarried.

First.. God himself is a divorced man. He gave Israel a bill of divorcement. Jesus said that we have a right for divorce if the other is a non-believer or in the case of adultry. The verse you quote (Luke 16:18) is talking about if a man divorces his wife (NO REASON) just to marry another..there is the difference

Hey, my friend. Let me clue you in on something. YOU have not found a "list" of anything that keeps a person out of heaven. you understand?
I don't know what think you found, but there is NO list, that keeps any person out. I suggest you go read the Bible and have someone explain it to you.

Yes that was in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus had been punish for our sin. Even God said that He will never condemned and our sins He will remember no more!!!

It is not the place of any Christian to sit in the judgment seat.
What is often mistaken for judging though is answering a question with a scripture, and letting the word do the discerning.

Because those encased in human flesh have no right to judge any other human. Judging is a sin, murder is a sin, the bible also says sin is sin, regardless of what it is, regardless that you are doing your own form of trying to "pick and choose" . That means, if you judge anyone, you are just as guilty and sinful as Ted Bundy.

There's too much damned condemning around. Why don't you get less self-righteous and learn to love your fellow humans. I know it's what you've been conditioned to believe, but you don't need to be so oppressive about it! Learn to love yourself first and then you will magically see that other people are good too!!
