My best friend used it alot, and he's got thinner hair now. I stopped because I seem to have lost some...not much though. People told me it is true, that gel causes hair loss.

The reason it does that is cause the gel "plugs" up the hair follicle..our hair BELIEVE IT OR NOT...BREATHES AIR ...if you wear a baseball cap or any hat without any ventilation..you will LOSE hair...the best thing is to not use that gel stuff..or use very little...

I've heard that too, my ex-bf told me to use alcohol-free gel so that my hair doesn't fall out because his was thinning because of it. I don't use much gel anyway except in the summer because my hair is always wet. But i don't know it it's true or not.

No, the normal hair gels and other dressings for hair that you would buy from a pharmacy do not cause baldness. In fact, some essential oils are reported to encourage hair growth in patchy baldness (alopecia areata)

This is not true. Baldness is determined by your grandfather on your mother's side of the family - no kidding.
However, when purchasing the hair gel, be sure there's no alcohol included in the ingredients.

There are many things that couse baldness. Genes, excessive cranial sweating, medications, etc. I would venture to guess tht if using gel on your head caused you to go bald there would be some lawsuits that we have heard of.

well if you use it all the time it does cause damage to your hair, sometimes including hair loss. try to use it less and only use it for special occasions.
