I had a Dr. tell my mother that all painkillers will slow your digestion slightly and therefore can slow your metabolism. If you are concerned about it, eat foods that boost your metabolism and exercise a little more, within reason. Whatever you are taking codeine for, obviously you would exercise in a way that doesn't contribute to that. :) There are also yoga moves known to boost metabolism so you can do that while you are taking pain medications.

You should be trying to put some muscle on your bones, not slow your metabolism. Get into a nice weight lifting routine 3-4 times a week for 1/2 hour at a time. This will build up your muscles, make you much more healthy and make you gain some weight (muscle is heavier than fat) If you want to JUST slow your metabolism to a crawl,.......eat only one meal (or two) a day (no snacks unless unhealthy chips etc) and the meals make a very high fat content. One of them, place RIGHT before bed. Oh, and dont drink any water, just pop. All these things will help your body's metabolism to slow to a crawl.

Can codeine slow your metabolism, contributing to weight gain?

If you can manage to do a consistent workout 4-6 days a week with your cardio, you will lose weight. However I doubt that this would be realistic, because the codeine is a "downer" and will keep you so tired, you won't have the get up and go, to go do it! Why are you on codeine? Ugh, get off of that stuff as soon as you can, it's is brutal.

there is no medical proof that codeine causes weight gain but it can become a very adictive drug I know I have been there and coming down from a codeine dependancy is much like coming of speed so I would advise to be very careful with it I never put anyweight on using it but I would never advise anyone to take the drug with out medical advise first.

Codeine is derived from the poppy like heroin and is addictive and not prescribed much now. Why do you take it? Stop. I know of no change in metabolism.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
