This concept of god is changing forever. From the known historical times some god concept was there. But the truth is that ths is a man made concept as answer to the questions beyond his finding. Many things considered as god's creation many years ago , have been revealed now. Many more to come. So the truth(it's bitter) is that there's no god. So believe in one so that you have a religion-for that purpose only.

For a Greek Mythology test, probably just the Olympian gods... about 15.

For Egyptian religions... there are 114 but you probably only need to know about 10.

For Sumerian Gods... probably the primary 4.

And for Hinduism... ONE (in various forms).

The bible says there are many gods and many Lords
even Satan is called the god of this system of things.
But as everyone pointed out there is only one true god and his name is Jehovah
Wether you like Jehovah's Witnesses or not that really is God's name. I checked, that is what he was called.
Read Psalms 83:18 in the King James bible

It depends, I mean if you want to actually get to know them on an individual basis it would really take a lot of time to know them all, because there are so many. However if you are looking to know them in a relationship fashion and develop a working relationship with them I would say no more than a pantheon.

Spirituality has nothing to do with any book or religion. Religion itself is a tool to give comfort and guidance to people in an uncertain world. Therefore, the answer is, however many it takes to make you feel secure enough to live a good life of right action. Like it or not, religious nutballs, I have studied almost every world religion and they are essentially the same with different names, words and terminology.

There is only one God. The rest is the descriptions supplied by various people. Make your understanding a covenant of personal connection.
