I went out with a friend the other day. He's recently "found God" and we went to the movies with some of his "church friends". He and I have been friends for years. When he introduced me to the new people, they immediately asked me where I go to church. When I told them I am Buddhist, they completely stopped talking to me and one girl said..."I'll pray for you". It made very angry. Why do people do this?

Because they THINK they KNOW what is right!! They are a bunch of hypocritical, arrogant asses that believe that a book that is over two thousand years old that no one really agrees on is the word of a god. They believe this only because of a logical fallacy that they insist upon ignoring. The logical fallacy being that the author(s) wrote that the book was inspired by their God.

It is like all other religions, based on human fear and insecurities. Most followers are exactly that, FOLLOWERS, they follow the stench of the sheep’s butt in front of them. Without the stench, they would become lost and would rather die than think for themselves.

Actually a really genuine Christian cannot look down on anyone. Of course no one is perfect but Jesus was humble enough to wash his followers feet, a task usually performed by a servant, (or at least by yourself!), and it did not say that the feet were already very clean, since we know that back then people walked a lot!

A "true" Christian follows Christ and should be humble enough to realize that he is not better or that someone is else is more of a "sinner" (how could that BE? I mean we are ALL Imperfect) and did Christ not die for everyone, whether they believe he exists or not? So, if someone is claiming to follow him and lacks the humility Jesus himself showed...that's just it, they are not REALLY a true follower, no matter what church they go to, or what words come out of their mouth. Actions speak louder than words.

Learned Christians will never look down upon non-Christians. You are Buddhist and be proud of your religion. All religions are good and teach forbearance and tolerance. It is only people who interpret things to their own advantage like what you had experienced. Have pity on these people and carry out with your life as if nothing has happened. A true Christian will have compassion and sympathy for you and will help you in which ever the way possible.

I see your point, but I wouldn't say it's most Christians. Just a select few true Bible thumpers!!
I'm Pagan and have been following my own path for years, and I have Christian friends who have stuck with me along the way. But this one friend, who used to be interested in paganism and actually borrowed a couple of books from me, has gotten mixed up in one of those "christian" churches that I and some of her other friends think borders on cultish. Now her new "friends in the lord" are constantly telling her that I worship the devil, and doing their darnedest to keep her away from me.
It's sad!!

Well I am a proud Protestant. I believe that all sects of Christianity are just good hearted people. They just probably dont understand you or your faith. I say good for you, especially since being a Buddhism is a very pacifist faith and promotes positive energy. You shouldnt have gotten angry, your responce should have been more like "no need, I'm very happy and secure - but thank you anyways" Na mastay !

I am Christian myself but I DO NOT go judging people because of their preferences. I am a firm believer in the fact that people have their own beliefs and we should respect them for that, not judge them! Unfortunately some "Christians" are close-minded and sheltered and believe that there is no other way but their way (I've seen it from personal experience!). I choose not to hang out with people like that.

nice, although I do not think it is fair to extrapolate from this limited experience that most Christians have a superiority complex. What you have here is people who enjoy giving themselves the title 'Christrian' with no clue as to what the title really meens.

Tell you what, next time you find yourself with "Christians" that are looking down at you, ask them how this fits in with Jesus command that whoever would be greatest among his followers should humble himself to act as the least.
How ridiculous that they would not talk to you. Christ himself remained open and available to people that were as the Bible puts it "sheep without a sheppard". Why was his personality so appealing to so many?
Because he did not go around telling everyone "you are going to hell".
Rather he focused all his energy telling people how to please God.

There is much religous confusion in our world because this is the devils world which is soon coming to and end. I appologise for their conduct towards you for Jesus Christ taught us not to judge. He also told christians "you who have faith but no works I will not know" GOD placed scales over the eyes of many so they would not know the truth, it does serve a purpose...I would like to refer you to www.ucg.org as study please allow an open mind and heart, Understanding will be given you. Invite your friend as they have much to learn.
