i have two boxers and they are the most lovable untrainable animals ever. Boxers were used by the germans as guard dogs and are excellent, but they had a saying that you were crazy to try to train a boxer, in other words you need to be a professional. They are great watch dogs, they'll bark their heads off when the neighbors are outside and can be intimidating. But, if you come in they house they just lick you to death. In other words, boxers are great if you want a dog to seem mean, and then cuddle up next to you after.

The Germans gave up on Boxers because the were too people friendly. The best watch dog doesn't bark. If your dog barks I know it's there and can take proper action to eliminate it as a threat. I would go with the Alsatian or a Doberman. Mastiffs are good but they're too slow and I, I think, better for their "scare"value do to size and strength of bark. You also didn't say what you want to guard. Get a good trainer and spent the time; it'll take about 6 months but you'll be able to sleep with the windows open and the doors unlocked. Final piece of advice...don't brag to the world about what a great watch dog you have (see barking).

The Alsatian would be a better gaurd dog. Boxers are more of a people loving breed and they look tough but most will love you to death once you are closer enough.
Be ready to spend hundreds of hours training with your dog and understand a gaurd dog is not a family pet and not to be around strangers or out in social situations. You will have to be the only one who really handles the dog. It takes much training and work and parctice to handle a gaurd dog.
however many dogs just being well trained in obedience make wonderful family pets and most are naturally protective of the family.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMPfl

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.
