My vet says dogs do not normally need a bath. I have three 'outside' dogs and they DON'T have a doggy smell nor do I bathe them unless it's with tomato juice when they investigate a skunk!!!
I believe indoor dogs have an odor because they are not out in the open air......

Well it's not a well known fact but just the other day I saw a wolf sneak into the lake here and take a nice dip. He was especially careful about scrubbing behind his ears!!! lol Seriously though if you think about it, we used to think that a person would die if they bathed more than once every year. I think I read about the horror expressed when somebody first started to bathe once a month! Dogs love being bathed (if they are raised right) and I love that wet doggy fresh out of the bath smell.

MIne get bathed when they go out and play with the stripy stinky kitty. THey are house dogs but also hunting dogs and they will get a bath for sure after they get skunked.
Other than than not often. They are short haired and most stuff drys and brushes off.

Bathing with soap eliminates the natural oil in a dog's fur that protects it from wet and cold. I brush my dog (Labrador) a lot and her coat is as clean and shiny as after any bath. The only thing I put on her is Frontline (we're in the field a lot).

Because they live in our house and sleep in our beds and think it's ok to go rolling in stinky stuff and grass (which i am highly allergic to). That said, I only bathe my dogs before shows and maybe once every 2 months or so...when they start getting a doggy smell....Plus, i love the smell of a clean dog.

Depends if you like bad smells.
Part of good dog grooming is knowing how to clean all of a dog's body parts. Although it is true that a dogs coat needs to be well taken care of, what good will this do if we do not attend and take care of everything else as far as our dog's hygiene is concerned? Here are some tips on what a good owner should always check to ensure the well being of his or her dog.
