Driving Drunk is against the law. Not drinking and driving. If you are at a bar for 4 hours and have 2 drinks your fine. A completely sober Designated Driver is your best bet, but having a couple drinks over a decent period of time will keep you under the limit and is a good plan B.

It's a business, and let's face it we as adults have to make the necessary arrangements to get home safe. Be it having a designated driver, calling a cab or walking home, we have choices. Sometimes u have to take matters into ur own hands and not leave ur safety in the hands of a profit minded businessman. Try posing ur question in regards to tailgating parties at football games. Everyone stands around drinking for hours and then, what do they eventually do? Get into their cars and attempt to drive home. And as far as why bars and clubs have parking lots, it's to utilize. Park ur car there until the next day; when ur sober.

The night clubs around here have the parking lots so there is room for the trouble makers to "take it outside".. seriously.. there was a big fight with over 100 people last month at one of them. The bars have them so it looks like no one is inside since the parking lot is quite empty.. so they are less likely to get harassed by the police.

Because there is a legal limit. For instance, you or I may enter a bar, have a beer or two and then leave. As long as we are below the legal limit for Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), we're good to go. This limit is .08 in most states, but a few cling to the slightly larger limit. Anyway, that's why cops keep an eye on bars/clubs around closing time but don't necessarily hover around them.

To ascertain your capacity before overstepping this limit, see the link.

Most aren't within walking distance of where their patrons live...some folks will bring a friend to drive them (and not drink) or call a cab, but generally people will drink and drive themselves, normally thinking they are fine to drive whether they are or not...

It takes about 1 hr per ounce of alcohol to get it out of your system, so someone who goes out and has a couple of drinks, and spends 3 or 4 hours at the establishment is probably okay to hit the road, if they hadn't had their last drink within an hour of their leaving...

But we all know how that usually works...don't we?

Yeah, yeah, it's for the designated drivers, and the law abiding citizens. But the drunks and law breakers have to have a place to park too.

drinking and driving per se is not against the law. the driver's alcohol blood level has to be above the legal limit in order for the driving to be illegal.

Bars and nightclubs are not there to enforce the law, they are there to make money. Customers have to have someplace to park, and need to be responsible enough to have a safe/lawful way home.

LOL--- very "good" question. I suppose they expect one to..

1. Drink in moderation
2. Wait a bit before driving home

Very good question, I like the way you think.

So that the cops have somewhere to sit while waiting for you to exit the club, get in your car & start driving!
