when having an abortion?

I have 2 daughters, one was born premature at 31 weeks. She is now 22 months old. The other was recently born at full-term. She is almost 1 month old now.

Both were named before they were born, but it would have been legal to abort (kill) them without their mother even needing to give a reason. Why?

Denial, selfishness, foolishness, fear and stupidity. This is something that was never supposed to happen and causes so much heartbreak. I totally agree with you. I wish more people would open their eyes to the facts you've shared here.

It comes down to a question of the definition of a human being. Certainly those who are morally opposed to abortion believe that a human being is defined by a fertilized egg within a mother, what science calls a zygote. Others have different views of when this zygote/fetus becomes a human being. The law doesn't recognize the individual until after birth, though third trimester abortions aren't legal in the U.S., which implies a greater degree of humanity in the fetus after 26 weeks than before, at least in the eyes of the law.

For me, though I do not believe I could choose to abort a child, it comes down to an "independent human life". While the zygote may or may not be a human being, depending on your viewpoint, it is clearly human life. It is living and it is niether a cactus nor a crocodile. It seems that the pertinent issue becomes when this human life becomes viable on its own, when it could possibly live independent of its mother's body.

That seems to be the issue that the law is addressing with the third trimester stipulation.

In general the more information we have the less likely we are to do wrong. But I see evil as having two forms, an evil of ignorance, and an evil of willfulness. The first type is mitigated with the correct information. There are some people that when seeing an ultra-sound, their hearts soften. A pro-choice friend of mine recently saw his child via ultra-sounds and now claims to better understand my point of view.

I sure there will be others that will see their child via ultra-sound and still kill their child. This is most often done because the child is female instead of male. This probably happens more so in China and India as in those cultures males are more highly prized. This is indicative of a second type of evil, an evil of convenience. In essence we want what we want and to hell with the consequences.

Fortunately there are consequences which guide us to truth and compassion. When we suffer because of our actions we can then identify with the suffering of others including those we have inflicted our desires over their general welfare.

So what can be done? Inform to the best of your ability, strive to create protective laws and let God do the rest.

We cannot control every aspect of suffering in this world. This is a testing ground of types for spiritual beings to learn and to grow. If we are fortunate we will see the coming of a new age. And age where people in general are more enlightened than in the previous one.

Not only do I believe this is possible I believe we are already coming into it. Part of the reason we are seeing so much suffering in the world is because the world is in transition. Change is never easy, but it is evitable.

well, pregnancy is not like carrying around $5 in your pocket now is it? its not that simple.

until i can give away my fetus any time i want, i should have the right to abort it. pregnancy is a many month trip to morning sickness, back pain, hemorrhoids, and many other horrible things. if i was a poor girl who needed to work, didn't have insurance, and my boss would fire me if i took an extended sick leave cause there's blood coming outta my @ss, i'm sorry, but abortion is the way to go. if the government took care of its pregnant poor, then i would say there is another way out and this person doesn't have to kill their fetus.
in our constitution there is no clause that says you must risk your life to save another. i don't have to intervene when someone is being held up at gunpoint, even if they die. even if i KNOW they'll die.
that's one of the issues here. am i responsible for this other person at the risk of my own like? no. should i help? yes, most likely. but that's not for the government to decide.

there are many other parts to this problem, which is why this is such a difficult decision.

It is unexplainable!

How can anyone be so blind as to deny the sacredness of a baby still in the womb?? It's obvious they are living beings, not something to be thrown out if they aren't wanted.

In fact, babies start having emotions nine weeks into pregnancy. Very young fetuses can feel pain. Abortion not only kills the baby, it causes extreme pain for the child (and sometimes mother) as well!

There is a limit to how old a fetus can be and still abort it. Generally people abort before there is a thinking baby. They abort before the fetus is a person who knows they don't want to die. They abort before the fetus turns into a person who is poor and has little hope for a good life.

I have no idea- women were brainwashed and lied to about abortions.
It's like the fetus was - I don't know- a butterbean in early development and then magically became a baby at some point - so it is okay to abort a butterbean-

It does not make sense- but then when satan controls people, nothing does.

I believe they shut their minds and hearts to the truth and choose to believe it is not a child. This is a very sad situation. Congratulations on your beautiful gifts from God. Treasure them always because Children are a gift from God from the moment of conception. So hard to say why so many babies are killed because there are as many reasons as their are abortions....No reason on earth can justify taking the life of a child. There are some wonderful links on the web site priestsforlife.org and they are not just Catholic but for all people who want to know more about whats going on. There has been a steady decline of physicians and doctors who absolutely refuse to perform abortions in recent years....Thank God.....there are links to prayer sites and I know many people are praying for an end to this abortion/murder of innocent babies. God bless you.

I wouldn't deny that it is a baby, but I would question whether it is necessary for it to be born. I am pro-abortion because, frankly, the last thing this planet needs is more humans being born.

You do realize every childbirth is a danger to the pregnant female? An abortion is much safer for her. When you can get pregnant, perhaps you can understand the decision not to risk your life in childbirth. Remember, you or anyone else DO NOT have the right to force someone to risk their life against their will.
