It is a heavy duty ceramic dish that comes with a rounded kindof spoon that you can crush things like pills, herbs, etc? anyone know what that is called?

Mortar & pestal. They don't have to be made of ceramic & can be made of lots of different materials; stone, glass, pewter, wood.

its called a mortar and passel . I think that's how its spelled . I've got one myself mine is made of marble . they use them all the time on the cooking shows
