Is it because they are truly atheists and they are trying to "convert" others to their form of religion, or is it just because they have violated the laws of god and now they appease their enormous guilt through the denial of his existence in a futile attempt to avoid the final judgement they so fear?

As proof of my point, notice the answer from "mchummer". This person comes straight out of the chute and accuses me of being a "theist", accuses me of enacting laws based upon my "religion", accuses me of committing crimes, and of lying.

Because I asked a question about atheists.

Notice how he dodged the question posed to him? He's in denial.

Thats the exact thing I'm talking about. I'm not accusing atheists of being murders, liars and the like, I'm asking a simple question.

Watch how many people post here and totally ignore the question at hand and just make religious based attacks.

You get a gold star for being the one to ask the Answers question of the week for THIS week. That's what I want to know. I say there is an ongoing battle inside of them. Afterall, God is the truth and He is real. It's like trying to get 2 and 2 to equal 7. And just KNOWING it equals 7 because you refuse to submit to the truth that it is 4 regardless of proof or not. Its like trying to eat through your ears. You can keep stuffing food in there but you'll never get fed. I feel sorry for them...not out of disrespect or a condescending attitude, but because the devil (who is not real to them either I suppose) has them. So sad.

Is this the "Only if you believe in god" section.?
I am an Atheist. I have read and studied the bible. I have attended Church. I have studied many different types of religion. And after all of this I made an informed and educated decision to not believe in god.

Now....why do so many believers tell me I should not be here because it is the religion/spirituality section? I can ask/answer intelligently about religion. Why don't I have a right to have a discussion about god? I am not looking to convert anyone. Everyone should believe what they want. You seem to be missing the meaning of being an Atheist. We do not believe in god, so no, we are not afraid we have violated any of gods laws. That would be like me telling you you are afraid you violated the tooth fairy's laws. It is just silly.

i'm here because i like theology and sometimes people ask interesting questions.
many atheists are atheists because they've spent years researching, watching, reading, and listening to religion. being an atheist doesn't mean that you hate religion or don't know anything about it, but mostly that you don't agree with the tenant that there is a god. that's it.
atheists don't try to convert. at least those with half a brain don't convert because we don't see the purpose. i don't care that people believe or don't believe in god, but that they can have an intelligent conversation about what they believe and why.

to the person who said its like forcing 2+2 to equal seven.......i can mathematically prove that it equals 4, but no one can prove or deny the existence of god.

saying that god is the truth is much akin to saying that blue is the best color there is, and that it's a truth. you're ignoring all the people who like purple, green, yellow, ect. the color you like is a personal preference, and you have you reasons for liking it (ie, it makes me happy), but understand that its not the only color out there. and you can't prove that its the best either way.

I have always enjoyed comparative religions, it was among my favorite courses in college, even though I don't personally agree with a lot of the theology as stated. I am not trying to convert anyone...everyone is welcome to believe as they wish. I am interested in what people are saying more on a sociological level. I don't fear the 'the final judgment' because I don't believe in it. I live my life without fear in a religious sense.

I give everyone the respect I would like to receive from them. What the person's beliefs are makes no difference in that.

They are on every Christian chat SCREAMING
to the top of the voices "I'm a VICTOM"..please look at me...and SHOW me proof...I'm a rational thinker, bla, bla, bla. Some spend their live's spitting in the wind. It's really sad..if they knew how they come off they wouldn't be doing this nutty stuff. Can you imagine going to UFO sites and constantly telling them "Give me Proof"..we don't because they have a right to believe what they want. Most are kids who are bored or very sour old people with an axe to grind

In my opinion, they like to put down Christians and Muslims and Jews because they think they are just SO much smarter and mature than us, you know, considering they did "Years of research about blah blah blah" and have come to believe that religion is just the comforting idea of life after d.eath.

Sure they did research about atheism, and probably one-sided research about religions, but they never seem to want to accept the evidence pointing towards the existence of God. I suppose it would take to much effort and faith for them to believe in something that is so obviously real. They would have to accept that they are wrong.

I also think some are subconsciously guilty...a guilt inflicted by God for denying His existence.

God Bless!!!

(good question)

When theists like yourself stop trying to enact laws based on religion, stop committing crimes inspired by your religion, and stop lying to further your religion, then the criticism will cease.

And don't claim religions don't do those things - you will be proving the third issue is true.

The only time I spend discussing the issue is on Yahoo!Answers.

Based on the answers I've seen given, Christians need someone who is knowledgeable about the bible & religion to answer their questions.

Bible thumpers can't seem to answer their questions.

I offer my answers to help those seeking the truth. Would you rather people be continually misled by ignorant bible thumpers promoting an agenda, or, to be told the truth?

For the same reason certain people find a need to spend hours and days discussing the god they believe in. Or the weather. Or politics. Or sports. It's what people do.

It's an interesting topic. I also like discussing politics... but I don't want to become a politician... nor do I agree with a lot of what our politicians do. There's really very little I can do about what certain politicians do, but I still discuss what is going on... even if I don't "believe" in what is going on.
