It depends on the vehicle that you are going to be putting an engine into. The current Ford diesel engine, the 6.0 liter Powerstroke Turbo-Diesel, will not fit into anything smaller than an F-250 without extensive modifications. A smaller diesel is a possibility, but you will probably have to use a foreign diesel because all the American diesels- the Dodge Cummins, the GM Duramax, and the Ford Powerstroke, are extremely heavy. They are built with cast-iron blocks and take up a ton of space due to the size of the turbo. The diesel that Jeep put into the Liberty a few years ago might work, as it is a small four cylinder Mercedes diesel, and Volkswagen offers cars with small diesel engines, but that may require changing the transmission too. You are probably asking for trouble unless you are putting a diesel into a full-size truck.

I wouldn't say it's 'easy'. Especially for someone who doesn't know if it can be done.
Ease of conversion would depend on a few factors.
It would be easier in a vehicle which is fitted with a carburettor. No messy electronics to worry about. Obviously the fuel tank will have to changed, a high pressure fuel pump fitted and alterations to the exhaust. It's rare to find a transmission which will mate up to both diesel and petrol engines. Many other factors will influence this swap.
Have you considered LPG or LNG?
If diesel is not negotiable, it might be easier to sell the petrol car and purchase a vehicle fitted with diesel.

Easily. Many people are looking at diesel conversions as a way to beat high fuel prices, given you'll have to replace engine electronics etc. but diesels are renowned for longevity and reliability as well as efficiency. You just won't have that tire-smokin', neck-wrenchin' 'punch' when you mash down on the accelerator...diesels are for grown-ups that don't drive like that no more....then again, there IS the turbo-diesel...hmmm....

With enough money anything can be done. A ford truck F250 or larger it is no big problem to do. 150 and cars thats another story.
